Eagles, Cindy's are setup for .927 pins, so I traded her and some money so it works out alot faster for me as mine were going to be redone but WTH.

    More pics!

Engine still at the machine shop, they couldn't find me any guides so Cindy sent some 2 day mail. Also picked up some other goodies, already had the valley cover from before.
Hopefully getting the engine built before I go on holidays next week then when I get back, pull some allnighters to get it running in a week.

Eagle rods with the .927 pin.

I found some nice stainless allen head bolts for the valve covers and valley cover.

Those rods look nice, mind me asking what's a set of rods go for now? When I built that long rod engine (7yrs ago) I had Cunningham make me up custom rods, seem to remember they were around $120 each or $480 / set.

Honestly not sure, I got them from Ebay for $220 shipped brand new with the .866 pin-totally fluked out. I see them for $318 + shipping all the time. Cindy made a deal with me for mine and I got hers. Chris sells K1rods which were my next choice at $550 a set and both have Carillo's for $1500 I think.

They don't, same as the pistons, almost immeasurable.

Finally coming together. Got the block back so I spent 4 hours today debring the inside, coolant passages as far as I could, opened up the oil pump hole and I like to remove the sharp ridge inside the oil filter area, port matched the coolant hole, drilled and tapped the PCV and connected 2 passages. Then cleaned off all the old paint with a wire wheel, die grinder, cleaned and painted it.

Block was decked, bored, align bored and new intermediate shaft bearings installed.

I get the head back on Monday, Chris sent my cams for Wednesday and I picked up my waterpump and Cometic head gasket today from Cindy.

This week will be busy cleaning, painting and getting it ready to run next week.

Whoa! Who the heck told you that?

The coating on my JEs added .001" a side from swain (.002" total)

I cannot remember how much the calico coatings add on the bearings as I didn't have mine done (but we do it at work on some engines), but I will guess about .0005" total.

Re: The Van is finally getting its engine thread-and progress pics!!!

Simon, all the de-burring should have been done before sending the block to your machinist. Now, you take the chance of getting crap into the oil passages. Just one tiny chip out of the hundreds of thousands from your tool is all it takes to score your crank, or cam journals in the head. Don't want to know what it would do to the turbo.

So.... get a few cans of brake cleaner and I'd blast the crap out of all the oil passages. If you don't have the plugs in the block, run a long bottle brush through the oil feeds on the sides of the block as well. After all that, then what we do is simply use dawn dish soap and hot water and a big bottle brush as well for the bores. This gets out all the miniscule grit from the honing proccesses as the kick arse pressure washers everyone uses never totally gets this out.

It has no oil galley plugs and yes, I scrubbed the block with soap and water, a brush and lots of elbow grease followed by a thorough washing with water, blowed dry, followed by brake cleaner and some more blow drying. I've been building engines for along time, over 25 years,
