My rebuilt 86 2.2 engine won't prime, everything is brand new, I turn the intermediate shaft gear with a wrench and it doesn't seem like much oil is getting to the head, should it be coming out pretty good or just slowly?

You need some rpms do build up pressure.
#1) if you can, pack light grease like assembly grease...that white lithium grease... into the oil pump. Then, when back on engine and oil in pan, use your socket on a ratchet and spin it around as fast as you can...you should feel it build up resistance unless you slow up a tad. I make it spin about 2 times a second and I could feel it build pressure. Not alot, but you can feel it. if you slow up or hand slips on ratchet, the resistance from the oil pressure drops back to nothing.
The grease... it helps the rotors in the pump seal up and do exactly that...pull oil and pump. Without the grease, it just lets air through the clearances of the rotors really easy and won't pull/pump without alot of rpms..
Try to get a cordless drill... see if you can check up a 3/8" extension with the socket and see if that works. Or..1/4" to 3/8" with socket. If you hear the drill really bog down after a couple seconds, then you know it's building up pressure.

An air ratchet can even do it, just make sure to turn it clockwise.
BTW, I have never packed an oil pump with grease, just too much hassle to take it apart and pack it and never had an issue priming an engine, either doing the above method, or cranking it over without the spark plugs, Maybe I am just lucky, lol!

You can also pull off the oil filter and pour some oil down the small hole under the part where the oil filter screws onto. That leads directly into the pump.

thanks guys, the drill worked perfectly, its definitely primed now, should I be priming it again with the turbo on? (i just blocked off the lines for now, and its a fresh rebuilt turbo)
sure, make sure the turbo has oil as well
Just a sidenote, I have got a bad brand new oil pump before, a Melling.
