A555/A520 question

So, Joey MacKay, aka Gaboon, is putting together an A555/A520 hybrid & came across this problem which maybe a model year problem???

In the pic below, the A555 intermediate shaft is on the left & on the right is the A520 shaft. He thought he had an '87-'88 A555, but then again, does he? Is the A520 an '87-'88 or is it an '89 or ???

I forgot which year is which, but you are right, one is '87/88 the other is '89...

I believe the one on the left is the 89. It resembles the 94 523 I took apart.

I was just talking to Joe about it , he's out of town, I mentioned to him it's most likely a year issue & his A555 is probably an '89 which he then mentioned, it has the grey syncros not the usual gold ones, I said, ya that's the '89. He has another A555 gear set which have the gold syncros on it so when he gets back he can take it apart & use those ones.

If the 5th gear is holding on by a c-clip, it's a 87/88.

If the 5th gear is holding on by a nut, it's a 89.

+1: left is 89+, right is 87/88.

Just so happens I had the right year gear set, 1eye had some new brass to install on it.

We assembled it today, it's ready to go. Thanks Pat!

Now if I could just get the block to the machinist......

You have no idea how much I wanted to get the car there but I still have a major back order that I'm waiting for just to be able to get the block machined......

I think Pat and I are going to make the trip however, at least for a few days for some bench racing at the very least...Unless someone volunteers me a car to race!! Any takers?

Shaft on the left is an '89 shaft and the one on the right is an '87/'88 shaft.

Time to search again for another donor transmission to get the shaft you need or another 1/2 gearset to use the shaft you have.
