How do I break the valve keepers loose?

I'm in the middle of trying to replace the valve stem seals. 100+psi isn't enough to hold the valves in place. Maybe I should have done the rope trick.

Edit...Nevermind. I got the first ones loose, anyway, by tapping the retainer a little bit with a punch and hammer.

How fast should the cylinder with valves closed be leaking down? It's loosing a few psi per minute past the rings.

Done! Except that I need a new valve cover gasket. This one got chewed up in a couple of places somehow. Weird.

A little trick for next time. Have no air or rope in the cylinders. Use a socket that fits on the retainers but wont' get stuck on the valve guide, then give it a good whack with a hammer.

When doing the seals, a pencil type magnet is invaluable.

You will loose a bit of air thru the rings, this is normal.
