    Stupid Super Clean

After driving the Z for the first time in a while, I was a little peeved by the dirty engine compartment. I soaked it all in Castrol Super Clean and then hosed it off. Sure, it cleaned it up some, but ALL the aluminum turned white, like corrosion, and the red paint on my valve cover turned a nasty pinkish/orangish color.

I'll have to pull the v/c for a repaint, but what to do about the aluminum? Am I going to have to polish off the corrosion on the head, alternator, waterpump, etc. or do you think I can spray it with some Eagle One Mag Cleaner (sulfuric acid). I don't think the acid will affect the painted parts, but what about the vacuum lines, rubber coolant hoses, IC lines, dizzy cap, etc.????

    Re: Stupid Super Clean

not much you can do. Super Clean is strong stuff, and its known to corrode bare aluminum. Only thing you can do is avoid getting it on the aluminum, and try to hose of what aluminum it does get on.

as for what you can do now, well I dont think it hurts anything, just makes things look not so nice. You can knock off what corrosion you can get to, or like you said try to polish it off.

You're suppose to read the instruction back of the bottle before use.

For under the engine cleaning, I like simple green...

i always use simple green and a paint brush, then finish up with a nice layer of foaming tire shine.

Yep, read instructions, that stuff is strong, I use it to clean off engines and it will also mark paint. All you can do is buff, polish, repaint.

Does that castrol stuff have muriatic acid (or another form of HCL) in it?

Best thing is the pressure washer hooked up to the hot water faucet takes grease right off.

    Re: Stupid Super Clean

C'mon, guys don't read the instructions!!

I bought a gallon of it to clean the driveway. I had done a rear gear swap on my Falcon and puked a good amount of synthetic gear lube on the concrete. Soaked up what I could, sprayed it with the super clean, and hosed it off. It worked great.

So, when I had the Z hood open the other day, it wasn't greasy or anything like that, just kind of not so clean. I figured what the hell and gave her a good soaking.

Well, I'll never do that again! Now it looks like a little kid detailed my engine!

When posishing I get this stuff at walmart that is blue and use a buffball. You can make aluminum look like chrome.
