    Turbo-Coupe turbo on stock manifold.

Okay, I know this subject has been brought up a couple times, so here's some pics of my project. Its a .60 A/R compressor with the .63 turbine.

I'm going to have to weld on a cast elbow to the outlet.

Here you can see that the swingvalve acuator arm is pretty much positioned in a spot where you can't even use it. The first pic is with a universal style T3 swingvalve, and the other two are the stock ford swingvalve where I modified the actuator arm to try to be able to use the stock wastegate, no dice. So I'm going with an external unit, that way when I step up to a hybrid later I'll already be set up.

That elbow looks like it ought to enhance the flow, eh?

Yeah I know, I'm a little worried about that. Although turbonetics says its a tight radius with "high flow". And they wouldn't lie to me.
Plus Gary D ran a similar elbow on relentless, so if its good for 10's on his car I wont question it. Hopefully this summer I'll be making a call to TU for a hybrid anyways

Very nice. Mounting a T3 turbo isn't that bad using the stock manifold,

This is how I modded my manifold------

Is that a new flange welded on Simon? That might help push the turbo out far enough that the wastegate arem wont be a problem. I just re-drilled my manifold and put new studs in.

No one had done it that I knew of at that point so I came up with that. I bolted the 1/2 plate on using the existing top studs, then just drilled the others. Ground out the bottom of the manifold. Everything cleared with no issues. I did have to move the can though but that was because of the angle of the wastegate arm.

Its a Ford specific 5 bolt. TU carries the SV that will bolt to it.

I think its just a "standard" T-3 bolt pattern. Dodge is the one thats specific. God forbid they made their turbos interchangeable with the rest of the turbos out there, that would actually have made things simple for us. I'm finishing up a custom 3" downpipe with provisions for a divorced style external wastegate setup. Fits right up to the ford turbo mounted to a stock manifold, and still allows me to run power steering, all in an L-body engine compartment. I'll get some pictures up tonight hopefully. Its such a shame though that the shiny new 38mm wastegate gets tucked away where nobody can see it

He's talking about where the SV gets bolted up,

Yeah me too, if you buy a flange from somewhere like atp turbo or anyone that makes flanges, you just order a "T3" flange. It will fit the turbine housings on pretty much any T3 turbo out there, volvo, saab, all the hybrids, cheap chinese turbos, you name it. BUT... it wont fit the dodge turbo. In those old Seasame Street skits, Mopar was the kid doing their own thing.

It's true , I've got a Volvo swingvalve on one of those ford turbos right now in my basement . I had it on a TBI header , with a downpipe for T3 on a honda .
My favorite Ford part so far is the SVO oil to water intercooler though . They also come on police /taxi crown vics .

Re: Turbo-Coupe turbo on stock manifold.

I was just looking at the picture for a bit... I'd try cutting the flange off the manifold and rewelding it on so that it was straight up and down. this would lower the housing away from the intake so you could use the internal wastegate. Just a thought.
