How to get the fresh feeling back?

I have a 89 A-555 setup and would like to know how to get that fresh feeling back into the shifter, like if it was new again. what would have to be done. Im researching short throws and when it comes time to change it i wanna do it right.

    Thanks
    Joey

Assuming the trans is still in good shape, I'd look into the adjustment procedures, fresh cables if available.

Thats it all you have to do is replace cables what about bushings and stuff.

Bushings are a must if your looking for better feel. Also, if the selector levers on the tranny are attached to the shafts with roll pins you'll want to wiggle them to see if there is play in the lever/shaft union. On my 523 they were sloppy. So I drilled them out to the next size up and put in new roll pins. Thats all I did (bushings and pins) and my shifting is very nice!

good news if you have an 89 555 shifter.... nobody knows how to replace the bushing on the side! i had a post on here and nobody knew about it, and i ended up using plumbing supplies to rig something up.

so check that bushing on the side and if its ----ed up then time to rig something i guess.

+1. New roll pins greately improved shifter feel on my cars. That and some poly shifter bushings.

Does any body have pictures of the bushing and were they go cause to be honest i have never done one or looked at even doing one. im scared i might misalign something. If you have pictures of what to take out that will be a big help.

    Notice he said A523.

    A520/A555 don't have the bushings A523/A568 have.
