Hammers are hardened etc, knuckles and most metal on a car isn't. Hit two hammers together and tell me what happens.

No, I ment hammer the knuckle between two hammers, if you time it right it should rattle it loose, not just knock two hammers together, thats just a waste of time.

Are not most auto body technician tools made or hardened steel? What about anvils? Many of these objects hit each other every day and they are still in use. I know some of the panel beating equip my dad has is harder than some of the hammers. I imagine impact sockets are hardened steel, I've had to caress those off nuts with a hammer.

That could be, cheap hammers maybe. I've seen the chips come off, ugly.

Ever see a nail spark when you hit it? Exactly! Any metal can chip when you hammer it!

sounds like old plumbers trick......hit both sides of the frozen pipe joint on the "female" area........with your hammers.........

why would you want to use a "little" hammer ?...ever?????

mechanic slogan.........JUST HIT IT HARD......(soft hits wreck parts).

for those not in the know......a light strike with a hammer is a ...TAP or a TUNK.

My *little* hammer is a 10 lb one. If it doesn't work, then the 20 lb one gets brought out. A air hammer with a pickle fork attachment works well also.

like simon said, pop it on the side of the knuckle with a hammer, it'll come loose. i usually do this instead of using a pickle fork, it saves wear and tear on the dust boot.

I got the motor and trans out of the way without popping it. Then bolted everything back together to roll it into the garage. Last weekend was all garage roof tearoff. This weekend will be new shingles.

Will probably get a chance to smash it good next weekend. I pulled out the 10lb sledge already just in case.

Railroad Spike Maul 4, Tie rod ends 0

I pulled apart the front ends of both chargers this weekend, and the hammer smashing trick worked beautifully. Thanks guys.

Both shells are minus engine, trans, wiring, and cross members now. Time to start reassembly!
