Tips on putting together AN fittings, what a PITA!!!

Hello all. I am putting together my oil cooler set up. I have -6 an fittings and lines. Any advice on getting the hose and the red caps to play nice?? Should you use luburcant? Also, should any of the fittings require teflon tape??

Yes, lubricant!!!!!!!! Aeroquip sells specific lube for this task. Im sure other stuff will work, but the aeroquip lube makes it fairly painless.

as for teflon tape, only if they are pipe threads. JIC fittings (the ones with the beveled ends) do not need thread sealant.

I just use some 30 weight motor oil for lube. It is really not that bad once you have made a few of them. Good luck.

Braided stainless hose? I take some decent tape, electrical, duct, etc and wrap it tightly around the SS braid. Then I cut it with a cutoff wheel or bandsaw or even hacksaw. The tape keeps the SS braid from unravelling. After the hose is pressed into the fitting, the tape can be pulled out... practice makes perfect!

+1 to the tape and cutoff wheel or one of these grinders and the thinnest blade they have for it.

Plumbers grease makes a good lube too(mainly cause I have a ton of it layin around).

Do you pull the tape out of the back side of the fitting or out the end that the open end of the hose is on? I manage to get it in there relatively easily after the practice i have had, but the tape would probably make for less finger poking.

Ok, well it seems that here is an issue. They are leaking slightly. I get a fine mist of oil in the vecinity the sandwich adapter. looks like i might have to take this set up off for sdac, untill i have time to use a UV marker in the oil to find the leak. i am sure the tech guys at the track, and my fellow racers would not like an oil slick.
