    G body doors?

What is the difference, if any, between 1st and 2nd gen G body doors?

I ask because I have a pretty banged up driver side door on my 85 laser that would be less time consuming to just replace than fix (car is getting painted anyway). My thought is that the doors are all the same from 84 to 89. Am I right or wrong?

Are the body lines the same on the 84-89 doors? I know it will bolt in but will the lines match up?

More than likely ill be giving him doors from an 87 shelby z. Now back to his question, will the body lines flow together?

Hmmm, now I wonder if the '87-up fenders line up with the '84-'86 nose . . .

Part numbers will be different due to the different bolt holes for the facia.

My 89 Daytona ES has non t-top mirrors, one is broken though, check out my gallery.

The shelby is NOT a parts car. Thats my project for SDAC I hope I make it.

Yes they do. They may have some trim mounting holes in the wrong spot depending on what trim level they came from. You simply fill the extra holes with body filler or weld them up.

    Re: G body doors?

The only thing you will need to look out for when putting 87 up doors on an 84-86 G body is the seatbelt mount in the door frame. As I understand it, it can be cut out and removed.

    Re: G body doors?

I've never had a G body with seatbelts on the door. Not my 89 ES, 88 Shelby Z, or my 85 Laser. They all have the seatbelts mounted on the pillar behind the door and the floor?

    Re: G body doors?

I've had an 87, and an 88 Shelby Z that had the belts on the doors. It was part of the passive restraint system. Obviously non of the T top cars had them, but it seems to be hit or miss on which ones got them between 87-89.

What's the difference between the '89, '90-'91, and '92-'93 doors? I thought all of those would be interchangeable? Other than the black molding piece that goes on around the window.

    Re: G body doors?

I have 1990 doors on my 86 Daytona. The interior was revamped in 1990, so the inner metal on the doors was changed to accommodate the new panels. The differences are not huge...some extra holes for the door lock, some extra brackets, etc. The exterior metal is exactly the same. I even swapped the 86 power window rails into the 90 doors with no problems.

The doors were part of the package when I picked up the '90 interior for my '86. If I had to have used the original doors, it would not have been a big deal. The center console and the wiring was far more challenging.

    Re: G body doors?

As for the front fenders...it depends on what nose you have. The nose on my '86 Turbo Z extends all the way back to the fenders like the 87+ noses do, but the '85 Turbo Z nose I got from JT ends right at the front of the fender. I think the fender metal on the lower half is different to accomodate this.

    Re: G body doors?

I put an '85 door on my old '87 beater TBI.

I even had to fab up a new mounting tab for the passive belt in the TBI.

Aside from the different colors from the door to the body, it lined up great!

I think I've still got a picture of it around, old 14" Enkis and all..
