    another turbo question.

Can white smoke blow out threw the exhaust caused by a bad turbo or NO are their seals in the turbo to stop coolant from escaping or is that something different.

    Re: another turbo question.

The turbine center housing of the turbo is water cooled and has a coolant passage, but it does not come into contact with any moving parts of the turbo, thus no seals for the coolant system in the turbo.

It's possible but very unlikely that there could be crack in the center section of the turo allowing coolant to get into the airstream, but that's the last place I would start looking if your getting white smoke.

How's you headgasket? Done a compression test and cooling system pressure test?

No, its rare but can happen. I was chasing white smoke on a turbo Firefly years ago and turned out to be a cracked housing. If your sure the head gasket is ok, then block off and remove the coolant lines to the turbo. If the smoke is gone, you found your problem.

Hmmm good point i could do the same thing to the oil lines and see if the seal is poped to huh.

    Re: another turbo question.

If you do that to the oil line, kiss your turbo goodbye.

    Re: another turbo question.

Oil is critical for the turbo, much more so than coolant, running with the oil line disconnected to the turbo is not a good idea unless you can prevent the turbo from spinning somehow (ie. vice grips on the nut of the compressor wheel and the wastegate wired open).

The coolant going to the turbo is designed to reduce warranty claims and reduce the chance of oil coking in the turbo after it's shut off. The turbo will proabably survive for a while with no coolant as long as it's allowed to cool before shutting the engine down.
