So i went to go pick my car up from the body shop tonight(89 2.5TI baron). On the way home my brother was driving it and i was following he gave it some gas and bam huge cloud of smoke. When we got home i crawled under the car and saw that the block heater was hanging by it's wires and there was a gaping hole where it was. What would cause this to happen? Is it just old and needs to be replaced or are there bigger issues here?

Its old and pops out, very common. Either buy a new one or replace with an 1 5/8 frost plug ala small block chevy.

Hearing that makes me very happy. I was just bringing it back from the body shop where it got $1000 worth of work done. I thought it might be the head gasket and i wasn't to impressed
This happened to me too.. at 125mph shut off.
After I blew that worked over Ford F150 sportside off the road I blew antifreeze all over his truck! lol!
