    High HP Chasis prep?

How/What should be done to the body/chassis of our cars to prep them for 500-600 hp?

Coil overs & big slicks, limit front to back movement, loose some weight, that's about all comes to mind right now

I was thinking subframe connectors too, but not sure about the details of it. I understand them on a rwd car but not sure on a fwd.
My main concern is to not tweak, crack or break the chassis/body.

I honestly think you have to worry about twist as you are not lifting the front like a rwd car ,their rotational forces are different.

For safety, and for stiffness, and cuz NHRA says so, a roll bar (11.49) or roll cage (9.99) is probably a good idea.

Are we building a dedicated race car or just a street car that runs at the street drags?

if you plan on launching on slicks i would reinforce the bottom of the radiator support with a strong piece of metal, fill your motor mounts or get better ones, and if 5-spd reinforce your rear strut or get a solid one. allowing too much movement in the engine compartment is where it all starts to go to crap as far as breaking mounts/wheelhop/axles, etc.

oh and i like the look of your car.

You know I did not even think about the front support. ( filled my mounts & a spring on the bobble strut) 2 days after I got the car the clutch went out so I've never experienced the dreaded wheel hop even with the drag radials.

+1 to solid front mount for launching on slicks.

I have not had a problem with the core support launching hard on slicks with a solid front mount in a few different cars.

It will be an srt4 powered, summer daily driver/weekend racer. Will poly mount give too much?

i dont know much about your cars but im sure it matters more for auto then stick, and then there's the condition of the car in question i.e. how many times has the core support been banged up against a curb or parking block, has it been pushed in by impact and then pulled back out, etc. the bottom of the support on my aries is pretty damn banged up and surely not as strong as new.

Yeah, I would say that accidents are key in durability.

All my cars are 5-speeds. Well over 100 launches on slicks on the Z and T2 Shadow and teh shadow did have a tweaked core support before that. I'll take a good look but i dont think it has any cracks yet.

    Re: High HP Chasis prep?

I think the core support is a more serious issue in some models then others. Lots of them came with additional support for the v6 and turbo motors (not sure about the turbos)

    Re: High HP Chasis prep?

A sort of floating beam was added to the core support sometime between 87 and 89. My 86 did not have it and since it was tweaked by a previous owner and crappily repaired, it tore itself to shreds. There are just a few tiny spot welds holding it anyway. I have no idea why they hold as well as they do. The one in my CSX is cracking and it has not been tweaked. The Daytona now has a REALLY STRONG core support (scroll down to January 20, 2006):
