Not sure about this. There is suppose to be two 4000 model scanners. One is the 4000E. The other is the 4000E Enhanced. I'm not sure the 4000E can do OBDII.

    For 4000E Enhanced:

You need the OBD II cable
    deuce 00 or higher
GM smart insert or OBDII generic chip

If you are doing generic OBDII, you might be able to get away with a lower year cartridge. I scan my father's 98 lexus using my pathfinder 96 cartridge using the OBDII generic smart insert. I found I couldn't scan a 2006 car when I tried it on a friend's WRX.

I was using nomandman's today. He has pathfinder 99 that I was using on my neon. Then I was using the scanner on one of his customer's 2000 minivan. That took deuce 02.

    What's a Duece 00? Pathfinder II?

GM Smart Insert, meaning this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OTC-M...QQcmdZViewItem

I'm not sure if mine is an enhanced or not. Any way to tell? Too bad I didn't save the auction from some 2 or so years ago. I do have a lot of cables, literature, and such...I just need to sort through it all. Thanks for your help.

That is a link to the GM smart insert. It goes into the OBDII cable, letting you run OEM tests.

Deuce and Pathfinder are names of cartridges. The numbers usually mean what year they came out for.

Best way to tell if your 4000E is an enhanced version is to read the cover. Does it say enhanced on it?

Just says OTC 4000E Monitor. I'm guessing this is what the enhanced looks like: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OTC-D...QQcmdZViewItem

My next question is, can I datalog with the enhanced on 89' Chrysler electronics?

That is a newer style 4000E. My 4000E enhanced looks like a regular 4000E.

You should be able to datalog with either. Just make sure you have a cartridge that covers that year. I personally like Pathfinder 96. It covers cars from 89 and up. The menus are easier to navigate compared to Pathfinder II or III.
