Trannys and computers?
Ok so I know if i put a manual computer in an auto car it wont run cause the computer wont know to shift the car.
but what about the other way around? can i swap a manual in and leave my auto computer?
Reason is, while i have the engine out I want to get a manual, but i have a FWDP STG5 comp set up for my auto.
I know with some cars it doesnt make a difference.

Re: Trannys and computers?
Non of the TD's have an electronic transmission (OK, I can't speak for the SRT/PT's).
There is no computer control over the transmission. A manual computer will work in an auto car and vice versa. There are very slight difference which I believe are during deceleration and coming to a stop, the idle is set a bit different - IF your SDS works.

Re: Trannys and computers?
Manual trans computers hold the engine speed up a little bit during shifts. Rather, they don't let the revs drop as fast when you're moving and let off the throttle. Its makes your shifts smoother to go from 2500rpms to 2000rpms as opposed to 2500rpms to 1000rpms for every shift

OK, that makes sense. I knew it was a minor difference, but a difference non-the-less.

Re: Trannys and computers?
I put an auto ecu in my 89 A555 tona.. (For 2.5 purposes). The only thing I noticed (and didnt like) is that it took longer for the idle to come down when the engine was cold. Idle was perfect with the stock ecu... for the record.
