    2.4 vvt turbo swap

yeah so i was wondering if anyone has had the this idea along whit me of basicly building a 07 srt-4 engine and droping it in an older tm car. basicly taking a caliber 06 2.4l eignine with vvt and puting the srt-4 turbo stuff on it manis pistons ect. i think that would make for a prety intresting swap on one of our cars. thoughts anyone??

Or you could wait for the caliber srt-4 and swap the whole thing. It's supposed to put out 300 hp and 300 tq.

the new world motors have some decent power rating out of the box but theres not much info out on what stock parts can handle or how to rig up the vvt etc.

i dont even know if they share a bellhousing pattern with our older stuff.

    Re: 2.4 vvt turbo swap

I don't think anything between the old 2.4L and the new 2.4L world engine will be interchangeable. I haven't seen anything that lists the bore and stroke of the new engine yet, so I don't know about internals, but from what I can see externally... nothing from the old will bolt up to the new.

Just looking at the pictures on Allpar, I can see that the bolt pattern on the intake manifold is upside down... looks like the new head has 2 bolts on the top and 3 bolts on the bottom for the intake side. The old 2.4L (what I have) has 3 bolts on the top, and 2 bolts on the bottom for the intake side. The exhaust side of the new 2.4L world engine head is different as well. It's angled at the top for one, the exhaust ports are shaped slightly differently, it has bolts sticking out on the bottom, and fewer bolt holes.

Using Neon SRT-4 or PT Cruiser turbo parts on the new 2.4L engine definately won't work without major modification, and may not work at all. You'd be better off waiting for the release of the Caliber SRT-4, and waiting for the aftermarket to build up for that car, before you try taking the engine out of one and putting it into an older car.

The Worlds engine is in no way related to the Chrysler 2.4L aside from size.

Kind of along the same lines as a GM SBC vs an LS1.

    Re: 2.4 vvt turbo swap

all that work for VVT? I think it would be easy to implement some timing belt cam phasing rather than try to get that new, unproven motor to fit/work in the older chassis. the older 2.4L is cake.

there was a cam phasing discussion on TD a long time ago. here is the link. http://www.turbododge.com/forums/f4/...am-phaser.html

Just an FYI, the new 2.4 has a larger bore and smaller stroke than the old engines.

    Back from the dead...

Anyone on here been playing with the World 2.4 from a Caliber SRT4?

It looks like I can get a complete engine with 9k on it for cheap. Has anyone confirmed its ability to bolt up to the older transmissions? I don't have the time or space to do the investigative work so, if anyone wants this thing let me know. The kid (mommy and daddys checkbook) is having one built that will exceed the 157 mph limiter

    Re: 2.4 vvt turbo swap

The bolt pattern isnt the same as any previous mopar FWD trans. I don't know how close it is to others.

Some folks have really made those ugly little bricks run really fast. Perhaps with aftermarket engine management, a complete drivetrain swap into an earlier chassis is doable.

I know someone on neons.org got their hands on a world engine. Don't know what they've done with it yet though.
