Cheapest and easiest thing to do is probably just buy another A568 transmission.

Would an 89 555 2nd gear work?

Not that I have one but I know the 89s changed over to the newer style gears and I think they are the same and that gives you some more options.

Indeed 89' second will work, in fact all the gears from a 89 555 except first will work in your 92'.
