    Half-Shaft??

I there a way to use a half shaft setup in my L-body with the stock 525 or do i need to go ahead and swap the tranny with a 523 and will that use a half-shaft setup?

    Re: Half-Shaft??

If I am picking up what your putting down, you want to use a 523 trans and retain the half shaft setup, if so, yes, you need to find a 87 and up half shaft from a car or van, remove the tranny side and install on your L body shaft otherwise just use an 87 and up auto L body axle shaft.

If your car originally was a non-turbo car, all you would need to do is get the equal length setup from any Shelby Charger or Omni GLH-Turbo.

    Re: Half-Shaft??

And for your info, L body intermediate shafts are the shortest, aprox an inch longer is vans and cars, 86 and older use the small spline inner joint and 87 and up are large spline.

Won't work in an L body, too long.

the axles in the omni are narrower, and the ones in the minis are longer. All others are the same.

I have read that they are, but you would have to have the shaft shortened for them to work I believe.

I forget where, but I recently read of Mockglh's setup axle wise. sounds like it is a pretty good way to get some higher hp axles for a decent price. It wan't cheap by many TMers standards, but it was significantly cheaper than the DSS ones, and they are said to be quite stout.

    Re: Half-Shaft??

I don't have any stock ones over here for comparison....I just have a set of modified mini axles that the guy gave me with the GLH and the RP Severe Duty ones that came off the charger.

    Re: Half-Shaft??

I wouldn't say the Mini ones are stronger, same grade axle material but you got a better selection of inner joints, of which some are stronger but then the RT and the Dynasty apparently got strong ones also.
