Anyone ever broken a rotor button besides me?

    Guys,

I went to the track last nite and when I shifted to second gear the rotor button decided to destroy itself. I gues the shift shock killed it.

    Anyone else ever do this?

BTW it took me an hour and a half to figure out why the car would not restart after nine big fireballs...

"rotor" = "rotor button", same thing but I think "rotor button" is actually the correct term.

Dude thats awesome though, I would keep the rotor button as a trophy

Haven't seen on broken, but saw one with a hole right underneath the center contact causing a no start. Took a LONG time to figure that one out. It was shooting the spark out to the oil pump.

The button is the spring loaed thingy inside that cap that rests on the top of the rotor, passing the current from the wire to the rotor.

Clay, I was referring to the one in the dist.

And yes I am going to hang it as a good luck charm on the shifter.

I had one on a '89 VW jetta blow apart. The little capacitor they have built into the rotor had enough and exploded. It gave a couple small miss',then one big backfire that peeled the stock muffler open and had me and the wife coasting to the side of the road...

I have not been able to figure out how either!

Re: Anyone ever broken a rotor button besides me?

It HAD to be cracked before hand. There is nothing that will put any stress on the rotor to cause that. I can't even see it breaking there if the top hit the cap.

LOL it took every part from my shelby Z to diagnose it!!! That is where we found out you could cool a beer on the intake manifold in 95^ heat if you run alchy!!!

If you've ever seen the vid of my GLHS doing the 2+ minute burn out at Mopars at the Strip '05 for the burn out contest, the motor stalled at the end and wouldn't restart. It was a head scratcher for me but turned out to be the rotor button...

    aH HA!

    Someone else has done it!

As for the for the rotor being cracked it is in two places. To the left and right there is a meandering crack that runs parallel to the button. It looks as if the locating tab sheared off and tried to "peel" the rest off. But, if that were true it should only be cracked in one direction. I think..
