    head porting, who's the man?

I'm looking for some major power out of my commonblock buildup, wondering who to go to?

If you want the absolute most flow, that would be a Steve Menegon (BadFastGTC) big valved head. If you want the best street/strip standard valve or +1 mm head, check out here:

    Hope this helps.

Re: head porting, who's the man?

My Steve Menegon (BadFastGTC) is amazing but big $$. I wish I had more cars and time so I could try one of Mike's heads which for the cheaper price appear to be very worth it.

Re: head porting, who's the man?

I was happy with the power increase I had with Mike's head. So much so, I am getting another, hopefully soon. No experience with anyone else, other than my local shop and my own attempts.

Todd Nelson is another person, that is suppose to do very good work. Not sure if he still does though.

Steve M for sure but contact 8valves aka Aaron Miller, he has a guy that does wicked work. Only going by what he says but 400 whp in Aarons car speaks volumes. Andre Parker at LWP does great work but unsure if he does 8 valve heads.

Also, what are you goals, hp levels? it could be cheaper and easier to go 16 valve.

I think he just does minor work, nothing major like Steve M and company.

Re: head porting, who's the man?

Is Steve M. doing heads again? I thought I read somewhere that he got out of it at one point, but I may have been mistaken or had him confused with someone else.

He hasnt announced it yet, but is thinking about doing very limited low priority orders.

Re: head porting, who's the man?

Yeah when I was talking to him at Cecil(and got to see one of the heads first hand) he mainly wanted to do it for the people that would really appreciate the work. He didn't want to just pump them out. Or that was the impression I got

Mine was done by Ryno (Turbofreak on some other boards) at Lonestar in TX.
I haven't got to run it yet, but it sure looks nice.

Re: head porting, who's the man?

I got mine done by MPGmike, as far as it adding ALOT of power i'm not sure. I installed the head when i put my engine back together, which included the ported head, intake, exhaust and t3/t4 50 trim StgIII turbo.

However, milage is wonderful. which is what i wanted him to do for me.

42-45mpg on hwy and around 35 around town. Quite happy with the results.

Not taking anything away from Mike or any other ported heads oput there, but the real reason why menegon heads cost more than the other privateers has to do with not the porting, but the machine work and parts. Steve uses high quality special made to his specs valves from one of the industry leaders which i'll let him name instead of me. He told me his cost on those and they take up a good chunk of the head's price. Then, he uses new valvesprings from another leader in springs along with quality locks and retainers..no stockers here... guides... I think he installs new bronze guides... can't remember, but I know he doesn't give you back 130,000 mile guides. Install large OS seats which again, cost $. Now, comes the machine work... resurfacing, pressure testing, installing new seats, quality valve job, etc... THEN he gets paid for his time porting which as a headporter myself, I know he's probably making like $10 a hour on it as parts and machine work can tally up close to $1,000 alone.

My 2-piece intake... I thought about selling a few... frig that! All this crap I am doing to it is worth alot more than $200 of my time.
