4- has rear disk brake setup installed off a 89 lebaron gtc w/ new vented rotors for it. New bearings an seals an long wheel studs installed. Needs a panhard bar!!

Re: FS 87 shadow drag car project
C`mon people, this could be a EASY 10 sec car, there has been no shortcuts taken in the building of this car, believe me, cause i`m the one that would`ve been driving it, an I don`t have time to get hurt.

Re: FS 87 shadow drag car project
I would have bought it before you cut it... but you know that

Re: FS 87 shadow drag car project
It was "cut" for weight reduction, an the floor pan had rust in it, now it`s alot stronger an lighter than stock .....I knew I should have built a Honda!

Re: FS 87 shadow drag car project
Hmmmm, don't remember any rust in the pics I saw...
You are right, it is built light and strong for a racer. I am looking for a street car, already have a car with a cage in it.

Re: FS 87 shadow drag car project
The rust wasn`t real bad , just pinholes here an there, the spare tire well was petty bad though. I do have a csx-t#152, could you be interested in that perhaps?

Re: FS 87 shadow drag car project
Yeah, now that you mention it I do recall some rust on the spare tire well. Damn Shadows and their aquarium spare tire wells!
Thanks for the offer, but I am reaaaally partial to '87 CSX's... Got a 'for sale' thread for the CSX-T? I'm sure someone might be interested.

Re: FS 87 shadow drag car project
Nice chassis. Will it pass NHRA tech though? I seem to remember something mentioned in the rule book about not grinding the welds on the roll cage.

Re: FS 87 shadow drag car project
I was building it to run @ a couple 1/8 mile tracks near me in either the DOT class or foot brake, or to reak havoc in the import classes they have. I`m not really sure if it would pass NHRA tech, the closest nhra track to me is Bristol, over 2hrs. away, so I never checked the nhra rules.

Re: FS 87 shadow drag car project
No, you cannot grind welds on rollbars in NHRA and I think the same applies to IHRA. BUT, you can build and do anything you want to the rollbar if you don't run fast enough to require it. Anything slower than 11.50 IHRA and 11.99 NHRA this would be fine. Many tracks I have been to would not bat an eye allowing this to run to 10.00. At 9.99 you are going to need chassis certification and they woudl definitely frown on the ground welds.
But, it is a nice job on what is done. Should be a very light car that will not need a lot of motor to run a good number!

Re: FS 87 shadow drag car project
NHRA is 11.49 for a bar now too.
Most NHRA and IHRA tracks will let you run quicker if they see a cage, they wont really look at it until you run 10's or better. Faster than 10.0 they will look at the roof hoop to helmet height first, but being a full chassis (I didnt see the stock floor pan) they might look harder at slower speeds tho.

When did NHRA change to 11.49?

Re: FS 87 shadow drag car project
Well, guess I should get out to an NHRA track more often.
