    Shift Light In Instrumenet Cluster

    Hi,

I have an 89 digital cluster in my car. There is a green shift up arrow for manual transmission cars. The funny thing is I have been in many turbo cars of different years and have never seen this light in action. Was it ever used? Could my 87 electronics illuminate it to encourage better fuel economy or be used as a light that would come on before redline to signal a shift up when racing?

It can be programmed as a shift light, but I don't think you can do it with the '87 electronics. The upshift indicator on the MTX cars used the same output on the SMEC's that the lock-up solenoid used on the ATX cars. But, the LM cars never had a lock-up converter.

I'm sure it could be done, but it's not so simple. Ask over on Moparchem.com...

According to my '86 Daytona's Owners Manual, the shift light feature was not available on the Turbo cars, just the NA ones. Party poopers.
