60mm tb
I just picked 2 60mm tb's up from the junkyard this morning. I plan to make another intake manifold better than the one on my car in the next few weeks.
My question is - has anybody used these tb's and snapped a few pics regarding the throttle linkage / tps rotation issue? I'm just looking for some other peoples solutions to get around this problem. Thanks in advance.
If your talking about the 4.0L jeep throttle body this is what I had before
Ofcourse I cut the elbow off the 2-piece intake
Re-used the throttle cable braket with alittle trimming on my new flange
The boss on the one runner worked good for a throttle return using the stock spring
The wires lined up colorwise on my application (the plugs were different though)
For the cable I ground off the stud on the 60mm tb
drilled a hole through the arm and used a TI cable with a bolt and nyl-lock nut so the cable wouldn't pinch

Thank you, thank you. That helps some, but do you have a picture? I'm having a hard time with the throttle cable idea you used. My throttle cable has a small (cylinder) thing. I understand you up to that point, but can't picture it. Yes it's from a 4l Jeep.
Is this the same TB that's on the 3.8 minivans?

It's not the same as a minivan TB, It has a 4 bolt flange and is not a direct bolt-on. The throttle swings open from the bottom (picture it in your head) and the throttle linkage is on the driver's side of the engine compartment. But I suppose I could mount it either way.
Dean Stillie has sent me the only picture he has of his 8v set up. The picture is usefull, just not as detailed as I hoped. Thanks Dean. Seems I'll need the tps and connecter from the Jeep as well and make up a plug-in adapter.
From my experience at the junk yard today - not all lwb caravans have 58mm tbs. In fact, I didn't find any.
My intake will use an elbow leading into the plenum. Maybe a 90 degree tube, maybe the 3.3l/3.8l elbow. Looking for any other pics anybody may have.

I got 2 throttle bodies and found out they had different AIS motor plugs
Thank you very much. I'll have to head back at lunch tomorrow for the connectors. It didn't occur to me that they rotate the other way until I was on the way home.
I follow your idea on the throttle cable bracket and that's very helpful. Thank you again. Will post up my solutions in case anybody else may be interested.
This is how I figured it out. I know it's ugly as sin, but that's kind of how I do things. 1st picture shows the adapting of the cable linkage and keeping the stock cable.
This second one shows the blend into the plenum area. It's also a 3.3l elbow. Lightly ported to acccept the best possible airflow.
This one shows the old restrictive bit after the elbow on the 1 peice before the old plenum. I think this may flow a bit more air.
Last picture is what the air sees.

if its worth anything.. the 3.8 tb is a 58 but tapers to 55 at the plate (ran one on my 3.0 acclaim... it loved it that with the 2.5 and the injectors gave it wicked low and mid range
Yes, you're right. The 60mm tapers down to 55mm after the throttle blade as well. Both throttle bodies saw extensive die grinder work from me to get as close to 58 and 60 mm respectively.
I think I'd have to agree, that the only people that would really benefit from the 60mm over the 58mm will probably want something bigger anyways.
Steve at http://throttlebodys.com/ offers bored out TB's with new plates. He doesn't currently offer a bolt on TB for our cars, but I'm sure that he would be willing to do one. The cost is about $85, so a 52 could be a 55-56 and a 58 would be over 60, a pretty fair price I think, and a lot easier to use.
I think that would be the place to talk to about geting a new TB.

Is there any way to tell a 58mm TB from without measuring the inside? Numbers stamped on it maybe? I found this at a JY but had no tools, was just taking pictures for Simon.
dude i just bought i digital micrometer from car quest for like $20, buy one
It's not the effort, it's that I didn't have any tools at the time, that's all. I have a 2 dollar set of calipers that is accurate enough to tell 52mm from 58mm, but they weren't with me that's all.
