There are several different companies that offer Short Shifters(STS). Short throw shifters are only available for 90+ cars.

A proper short shifter is designed to shorten the throw of each shift. Just lopping off a few inches off the top doesn't create a true STS. It just creates a shorter shifter. Lengthening the rod below the leverage point and/or raising the point of leverage is the way to properly change the length of the shift.

There are two different methods in creating a STS. First one is to length the rod under the leverage point of the shifter. Basically the rod's length below the pivot point is lengthened. This is basically a drop-in replacement for the shifter rod. This type of STS is more prone to breaking shift cables.

Second method is a combination of lengthening the rod under the pivot point and raising the point of leverage up. This method offers a more extreme reduction in shift throws. Raising the point of leverage is done by modifying the shifter base. New studs are installed and a spacer is created to raise the pivot point up.

Maddog is the only company offering shifters marketed directly for turbododges. This works for us because turbododge floors aren't as flat as the Neon's. Thus, Maddog requires you to send in your old shifter. Keep in mind, there are differences between each model's shifter assembly. Daytona's shifter knob is actually placed lower then a shadow's. The shadow's shift rod also has a slight bend in it, where as the daytona is a straight rod. Something to think about when/if you order one.

Mopar doesn't offer a STS for the 1st gen neons anymore. The SRT4 STS will work, but you need to swap bases. You will also need a SRT4 shifter knob.

OBX shifters are knock offs of B&M. They are best found on ebay.

Along with a short shifter, this is the time to upgrade shifter bushings. Only company offering bushings is booger bushings.
