Im going through my DD R/T because of a blown head gasket and no more clutch. As im tearing it apart im not liking what im seeing.
yup thats oil in the I/C piping
so i continue on:
i get it out and start looking it over and i find that the thermostat housing is cracked where the temp sensor screws in. somone over tightened it putting it in from what i can tell. I have taken it out yet so im not sure how tight it is.
I start pulling it apart and find just about every pully on the front of the engine is noisy!
I get to pulling the valve cover only to find that i need 2 lifters. I pull the rocker shaft out only to find that the both cams have almost worn down in spots;
Im also not too sure about the cam main journals: there is one on the exhaust side that is pretty scored up.
So I pull the head to find that its cracked between #2 spark plug and a exhaust valve. On the 8-Valve heads i wouldnt worry but what about the 16V? does it matter?
By this time im getting pretty discouraged and dont want to continue but i do anyway. I spin the engine over on the stand and pull off the pan only to find this;
see anything missing?
then i look at the oil pick up and;
it looks like somone just punched a hole in it? is this a common mod?
Anyway i stopped here for now. My intent was to pull the engine clean everything get the head psi checked and plained. clean the block paint it and put it all back together with the crap load of parts i have sitting in my room. I just wanted to put a solid stock engine together. but now it looks like im going to have to get cams. Which i have mixed feelings about. My only mods were going to be a FMIC, intake, Exhaust, and cal. i wanted to keep it simple and its turning out to be more than i expected. (go figure)
anyway thats my rant and now i feel a little better.
