I was just wondering if there is any one place better to get replacement axles from(Advance, Auto zone, NAPA, etc.)? I will probably be going the re-man route for now, $$$ savings. Thanks,
Kevin

The ones that I have gotten thus far have been pretty much the same no matter where I go.
I got one from napa, the boot at the bend was so weak, it torn itself apart in one week. Then I got a warrrntied replacement from napa, the boot is much stronger, no problme yet.
Get whatever brand you want, just make sure you get the warranty with it!
My experience here in wisconsin was that core charges can be hugely different from store to store. For example, and autozone store in Monroe Wisconsin wanted 60.00 per axle for core charge, the internet store wanted 15.00 and the store in Madison wisconsin wanted 15.00. Why the big discrepancy? The store in Monroe completed against a Napa and a Carquest, neither of which was open Sunday. AZ was open. The store in madison was surrounded by a NAPA, a Carquest and a Checkers that were all open the same hours. The NAPA store in Verona Wisconsin where I work, wanted 100.00 core per axle.
So you can see that it pays to shop around for core charges, because the axles are usually within 10.00 store to store. I will granat you that most people will go in with the core and so its isn't as important, but in my case I was buying axles that I didn't have cores for. I'll take a thirty dollar hit over 120 or 200 dollars every time.
Hope this helps some save some money!

The only substitute for cubic inches is cubic dollars, how fast can you afford to go?

It doesn't make sense to shop for core charges, your TAKING them back. I have found most of the aftermarket ones are crap, I finally found a local rebuilder and so far, 3 years and mega abuse later, they still work.

It makes since to shop around for core charges if you are buying spare axles! Which I have done before!

I had trouble with axles from Napa, Schucks, and Knechts. So far the best one I got came from Autozone. The problem is that the first one I got from Autozone was about 2cm too long. After driving to a different town to a different Autozone I got the right axle. It was one with a round inboard joint. Those have worked better for me. I have had ones with the Y shaped inner joint wear out quickly. The round one might be better or it could be just good luck.
The round one's are much better.
Stan's axles are reasonably priced.
