Upgrading to T2 - do I have it covered?

I have the radiator, intercooler (stock T2), airbox, upper and lower IC hoses and the lower rad hose for my 89 Lebaron 2.5. What else am I going to need? Do I need a SMEC from an 89 T2 car or will me stock computer work? I plan on turning up the car with a G valve to around 12 PSI.

The T2 cars had an air sensor, which allowed the computer to compensate for the cooler air charge, but I dont think its necessary. Why only 12 PSI? Youve got an IC.....crank it up! Well, at least to 14 anyways.

Stay with 12psi. 14psi might be pushing it on the fuel.
I would change the fuel pump now rather than later.

Stock fuel pump will handle 14 PSI all day long with a stock head, IC, intake, etc.

Re: Upgrading to T2 - do I have it covered?

You still need the intake manifold, throttle body, injectors, injector harness (I think), exhaust manifold (or modify the one you have), if you're doing a true TII conversion you'll need the turbo. Also, you need a TII computer from an 87 Daytona TII, lebaron, GLHS. You've still got quite a bit more to do.

P.S. plan on about $1000 to get it done if you are starting from scratch. Me and my friend did his car and the cheapest we could do it for was about 1000.

EDIT: After I read your post more, I think you need to be more specific. Year, vehicle, engine.

Re: Upgrading to T2 - do I have it covered?

Are you just looking to intercool or are you looking for a T2 spec car. IF your looking for a T2 spec car, than you will need another motor because T2's were 2.2L. I got the impression from your post you just want to intercool the car. IN that case, the manifold will work if youre not planning on using an intake temp sensor (or you could drill and tap yours if you want one....and get the computer). The injectors are the same for T2 and a 2.5 (as well as the harness). Obviously, the turbo is different from a 2.5 (mitsu) to a T2 (garret).

OH whoops I read this post completely wrong...

I thought he was converting an older TI car to TII spec. My bad.

Re: Upgrading to T2 - do I have it covered?

Looks like you have it covered. Don't use the 2.2 cal in your 2.5L, it requires some tweaks to work properly and if done wrong, you'll melt your engine down. If keeping it around 12, the CAT sensor would be nice but not needed until you get a cal, then you can have it turned on and wire the sensor in.

Re: Upgrading to T2 - do I have it covered?

Glad I could try and confuse everyone! I am not looking for a "true" T2 spec car, just to intercool this one, bringing it up as close to T2 status as I can. The info provided on the injectors being the same, etc, was what I was looking for. Thanks all for the help! The stuff is on it's way, so I have a weekend full of work ahead.

BTW, there is a large sensor in the middle of the intake manifold, below the fuel rail. There is a one wire connector going to it. When I removed the connector, the center of the sensor is missing so the wire has nothing to attach to. Any idea what this sensor is? I know it need replaced, but not sure what to call it.

That sensor is the KNOCK SENSOR, make sure you fix that, otherwise you'll be cracking pistons very soon.

Re: Upgrading to T2 - do I have it covered?

If you've got an existing 2.5 T1, all you need to do is pipe in the intercooler and use a G valve to set the boost to 14psi. A good future upgrade would be a switch to a garret off of a 2.2 turbo and ditch the mitsu turbo you got, but a nice exhaust system would be a good upgrade too. Your stock setup will push 14psi all day long. Don't worry about not having the intake charge temp sensor.

Depending on traction, 15's and if your bad at launching, much higher, lol!

Lebarons are too heavy. The lighter cars with the T1 2.5 were capable of mid 15s if you knew how to launch 'em, but the Lebaron has been bellied up to the trough and put on a few pounds. With my boost at 14, if it runs a 15 second time I will be happy....for now

Most T1's were 16 or high 15 sec cars if you could launch it. If running stock boost and an auto, high 16's.

What would it take to get it into mid 14's?

Not necessarily the best comparison but...similar weight. My 90 Minivan weighed 3300 lbs at the track. with the 2.5 intercooled, garret, 3 inch exhaust, graingered to 17 lbs, G head and slicks, 14.52 @ 89. Likely would have been similar with a swirl head.
