Intermediate driveshaft U-joint info. - merged with alternate source thread

It is said that the non greaseable U-Joints are the best to run.

Precision brand #245 is super strength non-greasable
    246-same but greasable

    Bruteforce- bf1-6301 is the 245
    bf1-6300 is same as 246.

BTW, I broke the greasable one, doh!

    Re: Intermediate driveshaft U-joint info.

And we now know the greasable are breakable.(by YOU).

Maybe DCX needs a reliability expert????? If you can't break it, NOBODY can.

    Lightbulb Intermediate Driveshaft Alternate Source

For those of you who can't find a turbo car in the junkyard to get an intermediate driveshaft from, I've recently discovered that you can also find them (later version only) on the 3.3/3.8 V6 cars. The bracket is different but the shaft is the same.

    Thanks !

Cool Re: Intermediate Driveshaft Alternate Source

'87 and later (except L-body). In other words the ones with the large spline yoke and side attachment bolts.

Any parts store should carry it or they can cross the number over to another brand.

    Really,

I haven't done the joint yet but the Precision unit is solid, the ends are drilled inside aprox 1/2 way down but not into the cross.

I had a Daytona int shaft lying around so I comared it to my vans one, and guess what, its the same. I was told the van ones were longer but it makes sense they are the same, as they bolt to the same place on the block and the shafts are where the length is added.

I have a van one that *is* longer. I guess pics are in order. I only use Brute force or Spicer non-greasable U-joints because of breakage I experienced in RWD cars.

The one in my 90 Voyager is longer as well. The van is a factory 5speed turbo van so I'm pretty confident it's the original part. I took pictures and measurements to prove this to Simon a while back, guess he forgot.

I'll have to see if I can dig up the pictures and measurements. I'll also take a look at the parts manual and see what it shows for part#'s minivan vs car.

And also think about it, if the shaft was longer, the bracket wouldn't bolt up to the block without a special van bracket, which there isn't one.

That is what I wonder about. There is about a 3/4" gap between the car bracket and the bearing mount on the van int. shaft.

Well we'll get photo's and such and clear it up once and for all,

I was running a Daytona shaft before my engine let go. The mini van axles are longer so I figure Dodge, to keep tooling costs down, just used the car intermediate shaft.
