    OBX in an A523

Hey, I've been planning an OBX install in my '91 Daytona Shelby, and it has the '91 A523, 3.50 FD. The car will likely be making around 350 WHP by springtime, and I'll be putting a heavier clutch in, figured I'd do the diff too. I was wondering if the OBX is a direct replacement into an A523. Also, if somebody has pics or a step by step guide for the diff replacement, that would help. I'm not familiar with FWD differentials.

Also, what would be the best way of tackling it? Pulling the engine, or working from the driver side axles, then inward? I'd rather not pull the engine, and I've done the passenger side drive-axle pull a few times for turbo swaps, and have got pretty good at it.

    Thanks!

It's a direct drop in, no grinding required. Be prepared to NOT have it done in a day. You'll need to change the shim used to set the diff pre-load and until your taking measurements you won't know how big you'll need, then the proper size needs to be ordered from the dealer. (hint, the obx's always take about .050 more than the stock shim)

With the amount of work, and the measurements that need to be taken I would never consider doing on in the car, so leave the motor hanging and pull the trans only.

Might be some install pics in the FAQ section, but if not you still need to read this thread

Read the whole thing, theres some discussions after the initial post that contain more info.

Finally, get an FSM. It's your friend and it will prove indispensable for any kind of work you need to do, especially transmissions.

Not off the top of my head, we go to the dealer every six months or so and order a wide selection and each size has a different p/n. Just hit of the dealer after and they can look it up very easily. Besides, there would be no way for me to know what size you needed and therefore what p/n you would need.
