Need Help, car kind-of stalling out!

Car is '87 T&C Wagon, 2.2L Auto. On the way home today (doing about 60mph) it ran FINE for the first 60 miles. Then all of a sudden, I lost power. Not electrical power, but.... it's like the engine wasn't getting any fuel. When I pushed the gas, it backfired a few times, coasted down to about 50mph where the pitch of the engine changed slightly and then accelerated like normal. It did this a few times for about 15 miles, then started doing it about every 10 seconds! It would accelerate fine, drive fine, then all of a sudden coast down to 50 or so while backfiring anytime I touched the gas. I tried driving 45-50, but no luck, still doing it.

I ran the codes, got nothing but 55.

Any ideas? I need to get this thing fixed asap as it is my only means of transportation right now! Thanks!

*EDIT* I was able to limp it home, but my speed was constantly going 60-40mph and back....

Check your fuel pressure. When was the last time it had the fuel filter changed?

Not sure, just picked the car up from R/T (Racin' Tracy Doyle) and he said he changed the fuel lines this weekend.... I'm sure he'll see the thread so we'll know soon enough!

Will check fuel filter and timing belt as soon as possible... I had to leave the car at my g/f's place (it was closer than mine, and I was in bad traffic).

Anyone else have any other ideas? I want to cover all the bases to get it nailed down as quickly as possible!

Re: Need Help, car kind-of stalling out!

Thanks! Fuel Filter is at the top of my list of things to check! Hopefully I'll be able to get at that this weekend.

Still, if anyone has any other ideas, don't hesitate to chime in.... time is scarce for me now with work picking up like crazy, so I'd like to do as much work as possible this weekend if the fuel filter is NOT the problem!

    Thanks guys!

The only sure way to narrow it down is check the fuel pressure.
