I just got my OBX lsd days after Christmas, so this is how I'm spending my new years. This is going in an 88 520, then into my 87 s.c. It did bolt right in, but had to take the shim out, bearings also fit very tightly on the lsd. Now to finish my linkage and axles, and get this thing running. I'm very interested to see what this thing will do...

Did you make sure the axles/I shaft will slip in? A few OBX's have been very tight and a couple guys had to 'bore out' the area where the splines are.

If it wont go in I'll smooth down the axle shaft splines a bit.
Where there's a will, there's a way...

Just tried the axles tonight, both slid in all the way effortlessly. I found if the passenger side wont go in all the way, pull it out, rotate it a notch, and try again. In certain positions it'll slide in all the way.

Hehe. As I was investigating the mysteries of the different tranny options, I wondered to myself if a 568 could be had with the taller ratio. Voiala! Here it is! Thanks to those who pioneered this!
so what ever type my good trans is you have to get that same # in the core (parts) right i am a type 3 so does that mean i have to get a type 3 only (90)

Exactly. There's a matching 520/523 for each of the different 555/568's. Match of the type you have to the type in the 520/523 list and away you go. Just make sure to read the warnings below, they might affect what donor trans you need to use.Originally Posted by Mr overkill
Don't you need to use the diff out of the 523 when doing a 523/568 hybrid due to the ring gear being integral to the diff on the 568? I know you need the diff for a 523 to use a quaife due to this.Originally Posted by TurboGLH
Yep, it says so right in the faq....Originally Posted by cordes
Sorry, I always get confused about that part. I guess the main thing to remember is that you can't just put a LSD in a 568 due to the ring gear being integral to the diff. So can it be said that to put an LSD (quaife/OBX) in an A568, you must make a hybrid trans? If that is the case, then I finally have it sorted out.Originally Posted by TurboGLH
Nope, cause you can get a quaife for a 555/568. The neon t-350 just so happens to use the same diff design as a 520/523. So if you want to built a hybrid for the taller gears, you can use a helical type lsd (quaife or obx). If you have a heavier car and want the shorter gearing you can just buy the 555/568 quaife (no 555 obx available) and call it a day.Originally Posted by cordes
EDIT!!
Even better, heres a couple of links that show a 555 type quaife install and a neon type quaife install.
