    2.4 Front motor mount solution.

I have been a member on Neons.org for a long, long time with my 1999 RT. Well, reading through some project logs, I came across a very successful racer, Len Alaya, who gave me a great idea for the FMM on my 2.4 in a 86 Shelby charger. Len is using a neon motor mount on the engine, and a Heim joint to connect it to the front frame rail. He has pictures on his project log over there, and they are awesome.

So, I looked around, and found some for myself. At www.mcmaster.com I ordered 59915K276 (Male) and 55915K486 (female) that have a 4700 pound load capacity, and 4720 load capacity respectively. PTFE lined and all stainless steel. It cost me $55.06 plus ship. Not bad for a badass stainless steel FMM.

I know there will be significantly more vibration, but hell, it's what I want. And yes, I know I will have to beef up the front crossmember. Pics will appear in my PLOG in the lounge when I get to that point.

Thanks for looking maybe this will help someone else out!~~Heath

Do you have a link to some pictures of Len's car or a round about way through neons.org or something? I would be interested to see what he has done.

All very cool... I will probably try this also. However my only question is which mount do we use when using the 568 tranny with a 2.4" Which one do we use? Pics anyone?

As long as you have a place to mount the Heim joint I really don't see it being a problem.

Well what I mean is what mount actually fits the engine and tranny section.

Re: 2.4 Front motor mount solution.

well Frank, the only thing that I can think of off the top of my head is the 97ish 2.4L 3-speed auto cars have something that is pretty darn close to a later TD (ie 1990 on up). there is nothing really that is a factory fit especially in an L body. the reason heath is talking about this is cause his is going in a charger and all 3 mounts have to be somewhat custom cause he is using a neon 5-speed. plus as heath told me the other day, len rocked his engine forward in the engine bay to get better clearance for turbos and to work on the back of the block.

you, frank, need a neon pass side mount and the neon 2.4L adapter, that caravan mount for the front mount (though you might have to mod it a little) and a 1990+ manual tranny mount and you should be 95% there. the neon pass side mount will need some tweaking and possibly some spacing after the axles are aligned and also the front mount too.

now stop whoring up Heath's thread

Wow, that guys car is unreal. I love those custom control arms. I wonder how those spherical bushings would last as a DD in salt, snow and rain?

Frank, I have guess you would use your stock trans mount, if your using a TM. The eye on the Neon mount is different, I have one at work.

    Your the whore!

I think for the front, I will probably have to cut part of each apart and weld them together.

Yeah, and that's an A-568 mated to the 2.4 block, FYI. I forget the guy's handle there, but he put up a ton of pictures.
