    OBX LSD: 568 vs 523

I have a large spline A568 and an OBX LSD. From what I understand, to install the OBX in the A568, you need to swap in A523 internals so you have the correct differential gear. So, would it really be worth it to go with a A568? or would a the OBX in a A523 be just as strong?

    Thank You

Actually you just need to swap in the 523 ring gear and intermediate shaft. This will give you a superior 568 as it will have a taller gear ratio.

It will become a523 with a568 gears. You have to use the 523 input shaft and main shaft.

You dont need the 523 input shaft, especially if you have a large spline. Just the intermediate shaft which the guy that run the ring gear.

I' putting 300+ HP and 350+ftlbs thru my OBX 523/hybrid and it's happy so far. I can't tell the difference between the Quaife and the OBX by driving them, they both work seamlessly to lay power to both wheels Fantastic mod for any FWD making more than 250 HP or so...

    Thx for the replies!

I guess i'll use the 568 since its the better trans. I didnt know that the 568 gearing stayed with the tranny, I thought it was just an issue of the casing.

It is a better tranny, but it can be even better when you mix the parts!

i think this is a good example of the strength of a 568 with a LSD

Actually I don't agree. Do burn outs are not much load on a LSD. The load is launching hard on slicks for many drag races... that is a good testament of quality.

Re: OBX LSD: 568 vs 523

I am running a 568 with a 523 *ring and pinion*. ALL the 1st through 5th, and reverse gears are indeed 568. I may make an adapter to use the 520 ring and pinion in the 568, but the revs on the highway are great sofar......

Re: OBX LSD: 568 vs 523

I have an A568/A523 in my Spirit R/T with the OBX limited slip. Final drive is 3.50 (from A523), with A568 gearset. This was all done for me by Cliff Ramsdell. I have not put much power through it yet but I love it so far. Traction is definately improved, especially going around corners it really grabs. I took a trip to Minnesota recently and cruising at 75-80 MPH yeilded about 2500 RPMs on 205/60/15 tires.

I like it so much I bought another one; same but with 3.77:1 final drive for my Shelby Lancer.

That is very odd. I'm waiting to hear back from the current owner of the car, he's been talking for a year now about buying one because it needs one . . .

    To be continued . . .
