    Heat Shield?

Has anyone successfully conjured a way to install a heat shield underneath a stock TII intake manifold (in this case a two piece)? Last year while building the engine for my Daytona, I made two attempts, one useing a sheet of aluminum carefully formed (with a hammer) to fit the bottoms of the intake runners, and the second using one of those self adhesive heat blankets you can buy thru Summit. Neither attempt was successful and the idea was dropped. Now that I am reassembling the engine to drop in my Shelby Charger, I find myself wondering if there's a good way to do it. Seems to me that keeping as much heat as possible off of the intake manifold would be benificial.

Due to the lack of room, thermal coating is only your real bet.

    Re: Heat Shield?

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about, no such application exists for these engines, nor would it fit due to interference between the intake and the turbo.

At least when working with stock parts.

yeah, I thought he had some sort of blanket type material stuck on the bottom of the intake.

Won't do much, except move the intake back and thats not the issue, its the heat moving up from the exhaust manny and heat soaking the intake.

JT has a one off spacer for his 2 piece intake, it lifts the plenum up,

    Re: Heat Shield?

For the top half of a two piece intake, get some 3/8" or 1/2" thick high temp phenolic and make an insulator. Brand names for the stuff include Garolite and Arboron. Such an insulator won't shield the plenum from the heat rising from the turbo but it should reduce the heat directly conducted from the head.
