    Re: S70 with .48?

Yes, it's much better for the driving I do.

I can see you're impressed with my trouble-shooting skills...
  3. Re: Lean #1 cylinder, not fuel or electrical. Waht's left?!!

I guess I'll never know what caused this condition. I have re-ringed the engine and installed a new head and the problem is gone.

    Re: S70 with .48?

I went with a S60 and .48 housing. The S70 I was going to use has a clipped turbine. Response is immediate!

    Re: Zero compression #2 cylinder

Having given this matter a lot of thought here is what I think happened. First the machine shop ground the valves too thin. Second, the rings in that cylinder never seated causing oil to get into the...

    Re: Zero compression #2 cylinder

Amen. I have to ship the car this month and it has to be driven to a place for the VIN to be verified to get a Colorado license, and the US military registration is only good for 30 days. We are...

    Re: Zero compression #2 cylinder

All is well. Rings seem seated at 50 miles. All plugs read evenly. Hallelujah!!

    Re: Zero compression #2 cylinder

OK, Got it running, everything seems to be fine at 50 miles. New rings and bearings. New head. I'm very interested to see if my #1 cylinder lean condition is still there. And, of course, see if the...

    Re: Zero compression #2 cylinder

Today's the day the head is going back on. I still wish I knew for sure why that valve got a hole burned through it. Could too much cam retard do that? I'm using an adjustable cam gear set at 4...

    Re: Sealed Power Oil Rings

I have decided that when I use Sealed Power rings again, I will use another brand oil ring.

    Re: Zero compression #2 cylinder

So the setup now is the S60 with .48 and an 88 turbo cam. That should spool quickly. I have .91 gears and a lower than stock stall converter. I had the thin Cometic .051", but I'm changing to the...

    Sealed Power Oil Rings

Two cylinders on my new engine wouldn't stop using oil, so I took it down and re-ringed it again. I found that the reason those two wouldn't dry up was that the oil expansion rings had broken tabs....

S-70 with a Stage 2 is an interesting combination. I've thought about trying that.

I was using the hybrid which is not clipped. It's the S70 I was going to put on that is clipped.

    Intake Manifold heli-coil size!

I need to buy a helicoil kit for the intake manifold bolt holes on my 8V head. What size do I need to order? How about the valve cover bolt holes? I need to helicoil them too! Help!!

    Re: Zero compression #2 cylinder

I'm glad I still have my trusty S60. It gives full boost at 2800 with the .63, so the .48 should make it very responsive.

    Re: Zero compression #2 cylinder

Too much for my purposes. The hybrid doesn't have full boost until 3500 rpm. BTW I pulled the turbine housing in the hybrid and there is no damage at all. That piece of valve somehow limboed through...

    Re: Zero compression #2 cylinder

Scrap plan "A". I took the .63 housing off of the S 70 to put the .48 on and see that the turbine has been clipped. So, I will be using my S60 with a .48 instead. Why would anyone clip a turbine!?...

    Re: Zero compression #2 cylinder

I'm building up my spare Menegon head (thanks Steve!) now, but I'm going back with a TU Super 70 and a .48 turbine housing. I'm tired of the hybrid lag. My rings hadn't completely seated even after...

    Re: Zero compression #2 cylinder

The butchers that ground the valves too thin also sank the seats too deep I'm afraid.

    Re: Zero compression #2 cylinder

Yes, my thought also. I guess they ground them thin so it tuliped. Bummer. It'll probably need new seats as well as new valves since it's already opened to +1. Sacrilege to a Menegon head!
