Airtex was our supplier at NOS for the booster pumps, and we had good luck with them, but I'd imagine any of the "name brand" pumps (Carter, Delphi, etc) would be fine for a stock replacement.

Anything is better than a failing/failed pump. Even a stock replacement you can get for cheap!

That's a good reason to un-freeze a couple of hundos... I'd get in touch and see if he can get you the hoses, etc to make the conversion, it could be the most frugal way to get the car moved/on the...

IIRC, the belt running too far away from the valve cover indicates too much tension, while the opposite is true for too little. The VSS should fix the stalling problem, it sounds like it might have...
