Re: 3.0 Build Project: "Green Machine"

You can bore .100 over, especially if you are not trying to make 1000+whp. Find the piston that will bore out the damage and it will work.
That said, not too spendy to get a new van or mitsu block....

When a car goes a little slow, there is always a reason. Sometimes it not so simple. My wife's 3.0 a670 felt good to me, but I didn't test it out.

If only the time table was that easy. Engineering school can make it worse on the same budget as another job lol.

BTW, nice times on your 8.3:1 compression n/a motor!

Re: 3.0 Build Project: "Green Machine"

Many years ago (2006?) My spirit had TPS issues, borrowed a scanner and saw the problem. I ended up having to swap out the engine bay harness more then once. Meaning everything in the engine bay.

5th gear would give a very different load...not sure what other difference that would make. Full or part throttle problem?

It doesn't sound like an ecu will solve your problem and if you tried another one you might hurt it. Have you even said what the problem actually is?

Re: 3.0 Build Project: "Green Machine"

I found they run the same timing auto to manual ECU for SBEC II. The only variable for driving problems would really be deceleration (if at all). The failures I have had with ECU's were loss of coil...

The wastegate hole would probably have to be hogged out and radius'd. I am only making these suggestions because cost seems to need to stay around zero $.

Re: 3.0 Build Project: "Green Machine"

I think you will need to put a different wastegate can on there so you don't run too much boost. Try one from a stock turbododge if possible?
I don't think its a big deal if the turbo is not...

Re: 3.0 Build Project: "Green Machine"

If your problem was drag radials, then its a bit different. My experience on street tires was a fairly smooth 2 wheel spin. On drag radials, the car would hook side to side violently as power moved...

Didn't find anything helpful but it looks like there is a nice off the shelf +0.020 piston ring set from JE. Chrome 1st and 2nd.

What rings are these? I have the 5 good pistons out of my Spirits first Holset motor with stock bore 91.1 chrome ring pack from Summit. If you need an oil ring these only have a few thousand miles on...

Can you take a picture of the damage?
Those oil rings can be a real pain to install since they want to slip between the ring compressor and the block when you tap them in.

Re: 3.0 Build Project: "Green Machine"

Well you will not make the motor happy if you dont put combustion pressure against the rings. If you have something mechanically wrong, then that wont get better. It is not an option to just idle...

Smoking at idle and decel or all the time..? If burning oil under high vacuum its a valve seal/guide issue.

If its a cylinder, maybe 2nd ring got installed upside down? Or oil ring is messed up....
