What is that, about 1/2"?
Hmmm... This might be another good project for me. I think AJ posted about some spacers in a thread a while back. The ones he had made looked super nice.
There is a very substantial difference between the gasket that separates the two halves and the ports in a stock two piece intake.
You'll need to do your best to make a nice round set of holes, measure, and then pick the appropriate size ball hone for your application.
What size are you going to bore it out to? That's the real question. I went to the gasket. I would think that something 1/8 to 1/4 inch smaller would be good to try going off of my memory. I didn't...
In retrospect, I would have purchased a smaller hone. It was too tight for my ports given the little curve which takes place in the runner. The end result was good, but the hone barely made it...
Todd, how much do you think there is to gain with a stock turbo and removing the humps vs. not doing so?
With a stock turbo, I would probably just open up the TB area to 52mm and call it a day. If you want to get crazy, you can remove a good amount of the humps for the bolt holes in the lower half...
What is your goal HP wise?
Thanks for the tips AJ. I really appreciate it.
That's a good idea. I do have a pool table...
That would be well worth $40 to say the least. I wouldn't dream of doing it myself if I could find a deal like that. Around here I don't think I could get either of the shops in the area to set it up...
I used a Flex Hone on the two halves tonight. 1-7/8" was too large of a size, but it did work well to round everything out still. It looks pretty darn good, but I still need to go over some of the...
Thanks JT. I'll reflect on this and report back.
Wow. The bottom half is going to be really thin by the time I'm done with it too. I really will need to be decent with a TIG machine by the time I'm done with this business.
Thanks for the pics Todd. I was thinking that I would go through on the back side like that. I've got to be getting close. The neck in the third pic looks like a nicer version of what was done to my...
Ha! I would have plenty of practice pieces. One of the ported two piece intakes I have lying around has some JB weld or equivalent in this area, so I knew that it would be an issue. I pushed this...
ETA: Since I'm in need of this repair, and I'll need to have the back side of the lower half welded up on two or three of these anyway, am I crazy for thinking I should take up TIG welding in my free...
A good artist knows when to put down the brush. I'm apparently not a good artist.
I find the L body cars aren't as bad as you'd think back there. I have an easier time doing the WG arm clip on an L body than a P body, but that could just be me.
I like the idea of insulating the upper half while simultaneously making injector service way easier.
That’s interesting. Didn’t he also sell a cone type piece that went in there?
Thanks for the links. I ordered the one off of eBay. For four bucks you can’t beat it.
Yeah, it’s not like he’s forgotten more than I’ll ever know about getting performance out of these cars.
I'm having a hard time tracking down that mopar PN. Did they come black like the factory pieces? To me it would be worth it to get one of those rather than finish off a plain piece.
When you...
Well, that's not a good sign then. It was nice that it was out when I started because I could see what was going on in there much more readily. However, I wouldn't have taken it out myself. Ups and...
