I have a TI with 90k complete with turbo, PS, intake, etc. Runs beautiful, doesnt smoke, knock or even ping. Looks as if the head gasket was done at some point and turbo spools hard. Complete with 5...

I had that problem and it was simply lube on the pulleys. Try cleaning them with brake cleaner and see if it works. I wouldnt tear it apart if you dont have to....
