Hey All,
I haven't been on here in a long time.
I have an '86 GLHS that has been sitting for 10 years. I'm debating on selling as a project/non running car, or finding a professional shop to...
Thanks for the advice guys! My biggest concern was plugging up the injectors... not bad enough to notice during regular driving, but maybe enough to lean the motor out when it goes into boost?
Thanks! Could I just remove the fuel line, extend into a can, and put the key to 'on' without starting the car?
Hey All!
I have '86 GLHS #422 that has been sitting in my garage for about 4 years. I have put a couple bottles of 'fuel stabilizer' in it, but otherwise the gas has simply sat in the tank. I'm...
Just finished reading the thread... sounds like you guys had a great time! Loved seeing the cars at such a big event like Pinks.
...
Yes, I'm bolting the manifolds up to the head before putting the head on the block. Thanks for the heads up about the intake manifold on first, although I already learned the hard way yesterday. ...
Thanks for posting those torque specs!!
Is that 4-step sequence for the headbolts (45-65-65-1/4 turn) all with the engine cold? Or do I need to re-torque the MP head bolts after a hot-cold cycle...
Hmm. I was about to say that the cam is all installed and ready to go. I'll have to take a closer look.
Next questions:
#1 - Which is easier - to bolt up the intake manifold to the head...
Here's what I have found so far. The images are from the autozone online repair manual...

I found this diagram on the autozone website. It says to use "Mopar gasket maker" on the front and rear camshaft bearing...
Thanks! Just picked up some brake cleaner and thread sealant this afternoon...
Next up, I'm going to be swapping the TBI cam from this old G head:
...
Where can I find this info? I know nothing about the custom cal's at this point and would like to find some good "introduction" reading...
OK, next question:
The MiniMopar site recommends using mineral spirits and/or naphtha to clean the cylinder head and block mounting surfaces.
Where do I get these cleaners? Is this just local...
Thanks!
Are the thread sealers temperature specific, like the permatex red/blue/black?
I currently still have the G head cal, but will get the tune re-done before it sees any boost.
Hey All,
I'm making the swap from a G-head to a swirl. I just have a few questions (for now) that I haven't found answers to.
#1 - Is any gasket-maker (permatex ultra black, etc) needed...
Does anyone know what the dyno day hours are tomorrow? Is it going to be running all day?
A 1996 Nissan Altima with 220k miles. LOL.
The GLHS has been down for awhile due to school/work and a burnt valve. I'm picking up some parts (headbolts, etc) from Chris at the dyno meet, so I...
I'm planning to be at the dyno event on Saturday. Won't have the GLHS though...
Awesome... I watched the video and totally stoked out when I saw it was a 5 speed!
Strong work.
Thanks for the help guys.
What do you guys use for intake and exhaust manifold gaskets? Will the local autozone stuff work?
OK guys, I've got the valve cover off. Looks like the head studs are 12 point, and all I have is 6 point stuff. Does anyone know what size these nuts are? I need to go buy a 12 point socket... ...
Thanks for the advice guys! I just got back from the radiator shop. I'm having them re-core the stocker and make it 1 inch wider, since I have room from where I ditched the stock intercooler.
Hey Guys,
While I'm replacing the head, I figure it's time to get my radiator redone. So far, it looks like my best option is just going to be getting the stocker re-cored.
The car had...
Yeah, wasn't that the guy from Reno?
Well, in the sense that he bought it, yes! But he didn't own it before or anything like that...
My dad is a mopar guy and met Pat Melendey...
Alan,
Thanks! I think you might be thinking of a different Eric though... I've never been to one of the Applebee's meets. However, I actually did meet you a few years back... It was when Turbos...
