Re: Knock volts versus degrees of retard

I don't think it works that way but I'm curious as well.
This is the way I interpret it: "if it's above this voltage, retard by this much"

Have you verified that it actually retards or that the...

    Re: MBC vs EBC

I spent 2ish years trying to get MPTune to control boost and could never get it to work consistently beyond 16psi.... went to a manual boost controller and had rock steady boost.
    Now I'm a glutton...
  3. Re: My awesome 11" brake conversion on my 87' Sundance

    Rock Auto lists 260mm ( 10.2" ) and 282mm (11.1" ) rotors but it looks like the 282mm ones have 5x114 holes.
    What rotors did you use?

...nevermind.. Rotors from a spirit with 11 brakes.

    Re: Daytona Drone

Miles, Sorry, Have been away a bit, I'll PM you for an email address. You have to promise not to laugh at the install, it's 44 inches of pipe tucked up inside the diffuser on my Consulier. ;)

fyi, phantomrt was on the right track. No need to add mufflers or anything that inhibits flow.
Google "Helmholtz resonator exhaust" , "side branch resonator tube" , or "1/4 wave resonator tube"

    Re: SRT4 Consulier

Well, I think it's time to post an update and some lessons learned. Keep in mind I'm only going to cover GTP specific problems...this isn't a 2.4 into an omni post ;)

    Initial thoughts: Figuring...

    Re: Knock threshold

I was so worried about bolt torque and ring gap placement that I just overlooked it...stupid and costly mistake for sure.
I don't want to say that's funny, but I found out that the Arias 3120000...

    Re: Knock threshold

Thanks AJ, I'm beginning to think there is some other factor that contributes to the reading, like possibly a knock counter or a knock voltage delta. The assembly file has some odd comments about...

    Re: Knock threshold

Thanks guys, I will be moving it to the intake.

What still doesn't sit right with me is that the knock threshold in the cal isn't being read correctly.

    Re: Finally Starting on #53

    Looking good Benji!!
Don't worry, take your time and you'll be happy with the results.

It took me almost 4 months to do the motor swap and it looked like a basket case up until the day before...

    Re: Knock threshold

I also verified that the knock threshold is being set correctly in the cal by actually logging knock threshold in MPScan and when it "sees" knock, the knkv is WAY below the threshold.

    Knock threshold

I'm trying to re-calibrate knock threshold on a 2.4 swap and I'm going crazy trying to figure this out.
Seems as though the cal isn't reading the knock threshold table.

    I'm running a 2.4 with a...

Re: 2.4L SMEC base cal questions and mods

ok, so, it runs. Here's my take on the base cal:

Starting: Starts fine when cold albeit a little smokey. Hot starts are super rich and flooded my car when trying an immediate restart after a...

Re: 2.4L SMEC base cal questions and mods

yes, The ski ramp pistons like MORE timing. I'm running dish top arias pistons so I'll start with the base low timing.
I have gotten it fired up but I'm having an issue where the engine light comes...

Re: 2.4L SMEC base cal questions and mods

I did consider the big valves and may do a full built top end at some point, but here is the reasoning behind the decisions I made.
The springs were to replaced because of the unknown state of the...

Re: 2.4L SMEC base cal questions and mods

Thanks guys, I should have given a bit more info since a base cal would run way differently based on engine mods.
I switched to an e-coil years ago and am super happy with it.

2.4L SMEC base cal questions and mods

Who's using the 2.4L base cal and how well does it run out of the box?

What timing changes should be made when switching from the ski ramp pistons to the old style dish pistons?

    I do have a bit...

    Re: GTP intercooler change?

Yeah, This is kinda goofy IMHO too, but only the last 6 digits are car unique according to the feds. I wonder if some of the exotic manufacturers start at 01 every year.

That will be factored in sometime soon. I'll keep all of the sensors so it'll be ready for MS when the time comes. Knowing my luck, the SMEC with take a dump shortly after the swap :)

    Re: SRT4 Consulier

This is the main reason why I'm considering it. Less stress on everything. Performance modded 8v motors don't seem to last that long. Although the one I blew up was due to user error ( oil starvation...

    Re: SRT4 Consulier

There are a couple of reasons. Cool factor, easier to reach whatever HP goal.
Let's say 350hp is the goal. The 2.4 should be easier to get there than a 2.2 8v thus less stress on the engine.
    Don't...
