    Yes, the PS axle in the equal setup is the same as the DS axle. The weak link is the u-joint yoke

    True story on LW rods coming out of stock engines, a friend's low mile 87 GLHS had one come out just driving down the highway. I'm guessing there's a pretty wide production tolerance.

    The number I remember hearing for LW rods was 250hp but have heard of them breaking under that, and living above that.

    From personal experience, my T2 CSX "clone" has a complete 87 Shelby Lancer...

    The very first one I tacked on cracked the tacks and walked off a bit and rotated when I caught it. They were small tacks cuz I wanted to keep as much heat out of it as I could. I pressed it back...

    I think lengel's design incorporates the input shaft retainer directly into the man plat so the backup plate is only needed on the intermediate shaft. I think this is where the discussion is to have...

    I agree it would be good to look at Al options too. beyond mass and strength steel still might have the advantage for flexibility / crack resistance

    I think tapered rollers on the int-shaft could would help but would be concerned about:
    -the mods required to the front bell housing
    -do we need to set pinion gear lash now?...

    Yeah that's kinda what I was saying with my last post...

    I think the intermediate shaft floats so you don't have to set gearlash, it just kind of adjusts itself.

    OK... after talking it over with lengel last night, sleeping on it and seeing all this great info and comments, how about this theory...

    -The engine turns clockwise turning the input shaft...
