My 97 neon dohc is knocking pretty bad. Is the head worth keeping for a potential hybrid build?
What other engine parts should I save before junking it?

Bump for a nice solid project car.
I drove down and looked at it today and it is definately worth fixing.
Its not the car for me at the moment.
In my experience sometimes a bad TPS creates a flat spot and would be there everytime the throttle reached that spot.
In yor post you said a slow rev doesn't do that, so I doubt its TPS problem.
Thats because alot of people don't know how to back up, so they rarely do. :D
Looks decent in the pics.
I'll have to check it out in person.
How many miles on the T2 drivtrain?
Is the drivetrain complete running condition?
pics are x-ed out. can anyone else see em?
I personally wouldn't use the term only 403 whp. Its not like its a small number by any standards. Getting that much hp at the flywheel is hard enough.
If it actually works good I bet that thing is...
post some pics and a price.
I live up near Hamilton.
I might be interested if the price is right.
+1
Or you could do the cheap method and add hardener to black base.
Saves money on not buying clear.
guess I should have started a poll..
"to save or not to save" ..lol
I have to get it up in the air to change the starter anyways, so I'll take some pics of how bad the undercarrage is. After...
The only shelby window sticker the car has is in the back window.
I'm guessing the front windshield has been changed at some point.
I would love to fix the car but it's pretty bad. I've fixed...
Come on now, having a ford pube in the driveway doesn't make you a hick. lol
A plymouth needing an engine? Thats normal aint it. :D
I jacked it up and was gonna pull the starter to at least get the car running.
When I saw what was left of the front sub frame, I was totally depressed. (rusted floors dont bother me too much)
The...
Well.. I messed around with the car a bit today and took some more pictures.
The starter is seized, the alt is seized, but the engine turns over by hand.
Jacked it up and the floor and frames are...
Just curious on why you went with dished pistons?
Do you plan on adding a supercharger in the future?
Just picked up this 85 Shelby Charger today.
Kinda rough, but I hope it's worth fixing.
Floor needs work, and I'm sure I'll find alot more.
Car is complete and should run. (The original owner...
Keep it a street car.
It dont mean anything unless you can still say "anytime, anywhere"
Recently looked at a 1997 neon with the DOHC 2L with 147 000 km on it.
The car has been sitting almost a year.
We tried to fire it up and it gave a little snort like it was gonna go, then the...
Yup. Lots of extra metal in there.
Like four pieces per side.
Actually I dont consider the car all that bad.
Fairly easy fix for me.
I`m just happy I went a little futher to fix it properly. I was debating on fixing what you see and call it a day, but my...
I guess its because you cant see it on ES models. All the flares hide it.
here`s a pic with it still on the car:

here`s a pic with it...
I`ll post pics after work.
I dont plan on leaving it off.
Just wondered if the newer ones still had the pieces.
I know it stiffens the car a huge amount.
+1 on that.
Raising the boost even a couple of pounds over stock is a very nice kick in the pants and adds quite a bit more fun to driving a TD.
With my 86 C/S Daytonta I raised the boost to...
Does anyone know if the later model Shadow convertibles still have that big channel riveted to the rockers like my 1991 does?
I took the channel off mine to repair the rocker panels.
The channel...
That is a sweet ride. :hail:
Looks like a car that should be sitting in the dealership window.
I wish my 2 Daytona`s, 85 T-top and 86 C/S were half as nice as your car. :thumb:
