  1. Super high crank case pressure after gasket job

So this probably points to bad rings, and needing to do a leak down, but I thought I'd ask just in case there's something dumb I'm forgetting.

Last year, me and my father did a decent amount of...

Re: No start - no fire

Well, nevermind. Turned out to be the new ASD. It was just as bad as the last one. I'm not going to bother wasting time at the parts stores anymore; I'll get a real relay that can handle the voltage...

    No start - no fire

So... after dumping a rather large wad of cash into completely new suspension, radiator, gaskets, seals, oil cooler, etc... my '84 Laser has been sitting like a lump since Friday. I can get a ride to...

    Re: 84 T1 to 8x T1?

Whoever did it did a very good job. You can tell they resealed the board afterward, you can see "brush" strokes in the sealant. How odd. I will see what Shelgame has to say about it.

    Re: 84 T1 to 8x T1?

Ok... this is nuts. I went to pop open my spare 84 computer, the one that made my car idle at 60mph, and you know what I found? It's been socketed, and has a custom chip in it already!

    What the...

    Re: 84 T1 to 8x T1?

    I figured as much.

I think I'll check it out, though. I'd rather like to pick through it, just because I have some spare '84 computers and way more than average experience in nerdy / techy areas....

    Re: 84 T1 to 8x T1?

Well, sure, I had already figured on needing electronics swapped if I did anything. I just wondered how much else I'd need.

Hmm... come to think of it, why did I assume I'd need to go past '84 to...

    Re: 84 T1 to 8x T1?

Yeah, that's probably true. I was just looking to see if I could do a quick and dirty flow upgrade without having to do injectors, throttle body, dist, etc... It's easy to get the money for said...

    84 T1 to 8x T1?

Just a quick, and probably strange question.

I've had a bunch of work done to my '84 Laser recently, all mostly maintenance that was sorely overdue before I even got her. I'd rather like to ditch...

    Re: Impossible idle problem

That was my thought to begin with. It starts off at about 2k the first time I hook it up, and then climbs higher and higher the longer I leave it running. I drove it about... ten minutes one day like...

    Re: Impossible idle problem

Ah-ha, so a few days ago it stuttered a little on the highway once I was up to speed. The power loss lamp lit up, but it seemed to be running about the same afterward. Once I got home, I checked...

    Re: Impossible idle problem

    Yup, still a T1 log.

    And nope, no codes.

The tubes on the throttle body are either ok, or brand new from when me and my dad rebuilt the metal line for the brake booster; the previous owner did...

    Impossible idle problem

Well, you probably all know me and all the dumb problems I've had limping my '84 Laser along, and you all have been great at helping me keep it going. I have a job that pays much better now, so I can...

Re: 84 Laser Turbo - dead logic module?

    Ok, that's good to know.

Yeah, the 84 was overbuilt, probably because it was the first year with the turbo. The rods were heavier than later T1's that had them lightened up to match expected...

Re: 84 Laser Turbo - dead logic module?

Well, I managed to straighten the computer out for now by cleaning up the connectors. It's still rusty and rough looking, I don't trust it to last too much longer. The circuit board was sandy, and...

Re: 84 Laser Turbo - dead logic module?

The previous owner did a cobble-job sandblast on her to repaint the body, but didn't remove or even properly cover most or any electronics. The gauges are full of sand, as were the vents.

Re: 84 Laser Turbo - dead logic module?

Yeah, the boost limit is a straight 7 on the 84's, with no overboost. 85's had a computer controlled gate and could overboost to 9 psi. If I ever get her tuned up enough to play with the boost, it's...

Re: 84 Laser Turbo - dead logic module?

I have the glovebox out so I can play with the LM. It was covered in sand, and probably full of it, too. I can clean up the plugs, but I'm not hopeful. I have been chasing tuning gremlins since I...

84 Laser Turbo - dead logic module?

I was having an issue with a code 24 (TPS) with two TPS that checked out good. It would stall when the "power limited" lamp was on, and idle at 3k when it started without the lamp on. Only code I had...

Re: 1984 Laser - No voltage before coil

Just by coincidence, one of the guys at the garage said something very similar yesterday. He said they had traced the wires back to the firewall to check for shorts / breaks, and so I asked if they...

Re: 1984 Laser - No voltage before coil

Diagnostics they ran came up with a bad coolant temp sensor that read -40. I just replaced it six months ago, so I didn't suspect it. Duralast junk. I had one of their O2 sensors die in two months.

Re: 1984 Laser - No voltage before coil

Good to know that might be an option. I'm not terribly keen on shelling out for a tow right now (if I get the job, I may change my mind), so I may need a way to get her running long enough to get...

Re: 1984 Laser - No voltage before coil

Ahh, sorry, I should have mentioned I swapped that a few weeks ago when I started to notice the hiccup in the driving range. I swapped the old one back when she died, and no difference.

    The lack...

    Re: 1984 2.2 Turbo I - air charge sensor

Well, I guess I'm not so sure that was the real extent of my problems anymore, since it died completely on me just a few days ago. I somehow got it to idle decently, but after I switched it off, it...
