Hi all,
I’m in the process of re-doing the A/C system on my 95 van and I’m having trouble finding the manifold for the compressor. Every reman or new compressor I’ve seen does not come with the...
Great work!
Have you tried doing a continuity test from the MAP sensor plug to the SMEC connector? If the vacuum lines are solid and you've switched out sensors, that just leaves the wiring or the...
When's the next dyno day? I'd like to get some hard numbers on this setup
I've lost track of how many changes this think has had, but it's time to get it on the road again!
The previous thread is here =>...
I was checking out this thread again to get me psyched up for getting my van back on the road, and then I saw the bad news. :(
Total bummer but completely understandable.
Sorry for the inactivity, the van is still alive and hauls butt! The smoking problem is a real downer. It only starts smoking after the engine has reached operating temperature, appears to only do it...
Update!
Currently I'm battling valve stem seal issues. The #3 exhaust seal to be exact.
So, I finally bought the correct KD Tools valve spring compressor and got a chance to use it last night. I...
Okay, I guess I didn't notice in all of the pictures it shows the adjustable handle. The one I have must be older or a different version because it has a non-adjustable handle.
Looks like I'll be...
Hey, I recently borrowed a KD tools 3087 valve spring compressor to change out some valve stem seals on an 8V. With it set up the only way I can figure, the handle hits the intake (2pc) before I can...
Positive type, I haven't heard of anybody having problems with them. I've had trouble with the umbrella type not staying seated on the valve guide. It's Pretty annoying.
I think so, but getting the wastegate solenoid tables right is a PITA (fom what I heard) especially for non-stock actuators / turbo setups.
Back in the old days it was a lot of trial and error....
Good to hear!
Did you at least put the hood back on? ;)
I've never really messed with the L-Body shifter linkage before, but I know that it is a rod-actuated system that a lot of times the rubber bushings are bad. Here's a KC article that talks about...
Worked on the AC stuff this weekend...
I'm upgrading it to the newer Nippedenso 10PA17C compressor. This identical unit was used at least until 1998 judging by the cars in the JYard. It even used...
Last time this happened, all of the valve guides looked to be at the same height. There also didn't seem to be any looseness. It was pretty obvious that the one valve stem seal was riding WAY higher...
Last time the valve stem seal popped off the top of the valve stem. There doesn't seem to be any more mechanical play in that one compared to the rest but I suppose it's possible. What to you think...
Update time!
Alternator still working great, no belt wear and no squeal. :thumb:
Then the Van had a low / no boost problem. I thought it was the IC plumbing so I replaced some couplers with...
It's been running for a while, but I've been out of town a lot, and we just bought an '05 Pacifica. Between all the cars and being out of town I haven't had a whole lot of time in the seat. :)
It's alive!!

Running great with the 523, it a little smoother and quieter than the 568. The gearing is WAY higher though. Great for...
Solution = Two HE351VEs
Duh....

Adam and I got it out in about 40 minutes...
Never give a man with little self control a drill bit larger than he needs.
No wheel hop at all, happened when I shifted to third. I'm guessing it cracked on launch and finished off a little further down the track.
There is a bobble strut who's quality is doubious....
Good news everyone!

Took the van to the track last Wednesday and was able to run it on slicks! Only, Mr. 568...
Thanks for the great writeup!
Here's a PDF I created from the OP if anyone is interested.
