Wow, I can't imagine one not coming out given how one of the axles I did shot out of there. I guess if it were completely fused together by rust it would be a possibility though.

If you drill and tap the intermediate shaft for a zirk fitting you can use a grease gun to push the axle out quite easily. It works very well. :thumb:
You just use modified stock rods which came in the car to shift the 555.
I have heard that the parts store ones suck. They would probably be much cheaper and better quality if you get them from the JY. I should also point out that you can convert the 555 to be rod shifted...
You can get the shifter cables out of any car which had a 555 or 520 in it. That's most 5 speed cars from 87 to 89.
Do you have pics of the two? I thought the one in the omni which I stripped had the ears. I've seen both styles though.
That makes sense too... I was led to believe that the int. shaft in my omni came out of a daytona so maybe that's true.
I didn't know that. I would have thought the int. shafts would have been the same length and that they would have just made the difference up with the axles, but I guess that would put you at a...
Some int. shafts are indeed the smaller spline size even if they didn't come in an L body. The 86' and earlier cars all got small spline axles. I found that out the hard way when I swapped the 523...
No, I believe the int. shafts are all the same with the exception of spline size. It's the axle which is shorter.
Thanks I edited the original post. :o
This thread has been hashed out many times before, but to reiterate my point...
+1 to unequal length having no effect on torque steer.
+1 to having a higher potential for parts breakage with...
No they won't. Get some axles for a 90' omni with an auto trans. Even the guy at the parts store can't screw that up.
