The FelPro 3.8L bolts I received today have the captured washer/different finish, and are NOT stamped with an 11 on the top of the head like the play doh bolts.
One way I see around the "8 to a...
ARP studs or even bolts wouldn't make economical sense for stock engines. I have at least 3 more engines to do after this one.
I have both types of torque wrenches. I've been using an old style...
Another new set of Felpro's,
2 failed to hit 90 lbs...and I'm done with these things. When I torque 'em it feels like Russian roulette with play dough.

Yes, correct, the bolts never torqued. they just stretched. Never came close...as I applied the 1/4 turn they didn't seem to get tighter, just stayed the same. I then began double checking, removing,...
Man,
You guys have great luck.
Try this on for size...
Brand new box of Felpro's tonight. 4 bolts necked threads before torquing to yield/test torque.

Howdy,
I've used these Dorman 03411 in a few motors. They're for a Ford application of some sort.

I second pulling the intake to see how far down they went with the nest...
I'd seal the top of the intake real good and hose-down the engine compartment before working on it anymore.
Or, put on...
Okay, here we go...
Replaced the head on my 89 Turbo van.
Since I pulled the dist when I reset the timing belt, I decided it would be a good thing to reset the static engine timing.

In my experience,
The idler pulley makes a scouring or grinding noise when the bearing is going south...like a bad alternator.

Ahhhhhh, the weirdness never stops...
Both my Minivans make a howling/dry bearing noise when they're cold...as in cold out...not operating temp.
I've owned one van for 10+ years, and for...
Thanks,
Yes, quite weird...
When I got home and finally pulled the fuse, it was running at the time...and it pinned the tach at 2k. I had to shut it off and reinsert the fuse to get it to...
Update,
First, although the Shadow is stripped, it IS an ES model...so it DOES have a tach (DUH).
The tach IS on the same circuit as the radio and dome light...so, I think raccoon's guess of...
