  1. Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

I've never had the pump out of this one. I'll let you know if i ever find out!
  2. Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

Cant remember if i mentioned it but i did finally experience what i think was the same thing launching my 2.4 van with ~5gal gas in it.
  3. Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

Yeah, it seems .004 is a limit for sealing a composite gasket on a stock (i.e. probably non turbo and definitely not 3x stock boost if turbo) application. Flatter is always better and in your case...
  4. Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

Talk about a smoking gun. Those pics are clear as day! What's ironic is that i just put an engine back together (not a TM) after checking the decks and finding they were within the spec.. of .004.
  5. Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

Even with 23" tires and 3.02 gears you still have tons of MPH headroom. I don't think there's any good reason to go to bigger slicks (which eat more power) given that you know you can do 1.7 60' with...
  6. Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

I am definitely going to use this new part # when i buy shocks for my van. :)
  7. Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

I did not have too much trouble adapting an earlier style pump into the ~1994 pump module when i was fixing that 3.8L van. I think the fact that that pump assembly will drop into an earlier tank...
  8. Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

The newer pump assembly would probably work. The big plastic can acts as the baffle. The return line keeps the plastic can full of fuel even if the 'outside' fuel level is much lower. There are...
  9. Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

Well, you did go to Cecil. It seems to be some sort of nexus for ending up on the internet.
  10. Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

Saw the vid when he posted it. Good ----! This has been a pretty good year for turbo vans... and one month yet to go. ;)
  11. Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

The reason i asked is because you can more or less fill the system based on low side pressures instead of going off of weight once the weight specs are rendered wrong by modifying something.

    If...
  12. Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

Are you actually using gauges? What is your low side pressure? The compressor will never cycle if the low side pressure never drops, such as if you are OVER charged.....
  13. Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

Totally realistic, that's actually exactly what boost creep is!

I dont think worries about the puck being forced open are relevant in this situation. You can just fix that with spring tension. It...
  14. Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

Well, if exhaust pressure is forcing the wastegate puck open it would make your boost lower, and this is the opposite problem. I really doubt that will be a problem with this setup, though.
  15. Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

If i were doing it i would port what you have because it's not prohibitively expensive/tedious to do it all over again if needed. If i couldnt do it myself for whatever combination of reasons i'd...
  16. Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

I dont think there is a safe way to keep the turbo from overspinning with no charge hoses on it. I think you should just do what you've been doing incrementally letting it go higher and fine tuning...
  17. Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

Nice!! I'd say it's just 1-2 more psi away from 12s, but really if you had a setup that didn't creep you could actually raise boost at lower rpms without raising your peak boost and probably get it...
  18. Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

Well, you only know it looks good at the rpm you've actually been to, which on that one log wasnt over 5400 iirc?

Personally, i wouldnt touch your boost controller. I would just let it rev higher...
  19. Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

It's creeping up to 20 at ~4800. I think you NEED to keep shifting low (way too low for the setup, really) just so that you can safely tune for that.

But, with your crazy low shift points it's...
  20. Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

Ok, interesting. Seems like you could be able to make power higher up and move your rev limiter and shift points up with the right cam timing and tune. Did it feel like power was still climbing when...
  21. Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

Time to update your thread with drag racing info!

What rpm were you shifting at?
  22. Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

    Tint looks nice!

185 is still in the happy range.
  23. Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

Well, years and street miles are not very related with these cars. If you get a gauge id be interested to hear what you find. I've never owned a trans temp gauge but I also never had a high stall...
  24. Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

Do you have a trans temp gauge?

Im curious as to the choice of a higher than stock stall with lower than stock gearing. I think it will create a lot of heat during normal driving.
  25. Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)

Huh, i never thought to bolt an engine to the stand sideways like that. Good idea, Younger Alan! :p

Thanks for posting up these old pics, Gary D. I wish more stuff from the older days was still...
