I bought a set of axles from Detroit Axle. They look like they’re made with OEM parts. These are probably stronger than Chinese axles but not quite DSS strength. Then again maybe they are.
The order has been on hold for a couple years. DSS cannot get some of the required parts.

Do they need whole core axles, or just some specific parts?

The back (inside surface that faces the engine / trans). I was able to sneak the end of the tape between the caliper bracket and the CV housing to reach the knuckle.
