Re: A413 - slippage, burnt fluid smell

So probably needs a rebuild? I'm unfamiliar with auto trans, everything I've had has been manual.

I've got the original a413 sitting beside it so can probably rebuild, just kind of pain in the...

A413 - slippage, burnt fluid smell

    Hey guys,

Got a used a413 from a buddy to go with the rebuilt engine that just got put into 1989 Daytona Shelby.

Put semi synthetic ATF multi vehicle fluid in it, and can't seem to get it to...

    Re: Oil pump/distributor shaft issue

Weird. The oil pump wasn't sitting flush against the flange is my guess. The bolts were tight on the pump but it wasn't fully on the intermediate shaft. I looked at the wear pattern on the teeth and...

    Re: Oil pump/distributor shaft issue

Sorry if the post lacks clarity, I'll try and get some photos later but most likely I'll be droppingthe pan and checking the pump

The lugs are there on the distributor drive shaft, I have two of...

    Re: Oil pump/distributor shaft issue

Gears are meshing from intermediate shaft to the oil pump gear. No binding, and it spinning the intermediate does turn the oil pump freely. But the top piece that the distributor shaft sits in, is...

    Oil pump/distributor shaft issue

    Hey all,

Got a used low mile rebuild from a buddy of mine. It's a late 80's 2.5 turbo 1

Just getting around to putting it in the car. Got it lined up, bolted in, went to check timing on the...

Re: A413 auto - no reverse issue

Reverse servo piston seal was shot, chunks missing out of it and super hard rubber. Now to try and line up another seal... Nobody around here has them... :(

Re: A413 auto - no reverse issue

    Thanks for the reply!

I do have the lever out and the strut looked straight. I haven't pulled the piston / servo out to check it, is there anything to be aware of there? Is it just the snap ring...

A413 auto - no reverse issue

    Hey guys,

Interesting issue here. I'm not too familiar with auto transmissions, every TD I have personally owned is/was a manual.

So I've got a sibling with the auto, and have done a few...

Re: 1989 Daytona Shelby cut out/fuel cut?

That was another one of my thoughts. Does the digi-dash use any special sensor, or is it the same? It's the first digi-dash car I've worked on, it looks like there is an extra cable from the throttle...

Re: 1989 Daytona Shelby cut out/fuel cut?

I'm almost positive its fuel cut. It'll rev higher, if I back out of the throttle. Anything above 75% throttle seems to make it cut at around that 4200 RPM mark.

    I checked the timing roughly...

Re: 1989 Daytona Shelby cut out/fuel cut?

Swapped TPS for known good unit, made no difference. Checked all the grounds and added one to the fuel rail just for safe measure (had similar problem on another car) and no difference...

1989 Daytona Shelby cut out/fuel cut?

    Hey all,

Interesting scenario here, I'm thinking its possibly the distance sensor but heres what I've found:

Bone stock, all original 1989 2.5 T1 Auto.

At approx 4000-4500 RPM, the car acts...
  14. 1991 Daytona Shelby, 2.5 forged piston build overfueling

    Hey guys,

Haven't been on here much in the last couple years, but trying to bring this project to a finish and get it all tied up.

    Story behind the engine:
2.5 bored 0.035 over, Ross Racing...

  16. Re: Intermediate shaft: binding with oil pump gear?

Pulled a junkyard oil pump today, put it in, no binding issue, distributor does not even wobble a hair.

Turns out both of those other oil pumps were machined incorrectly, moreso the brand new...
  17. Re: Intermediate shaft: binding with oil pump gear?

lol, I grew up around a bunch of people that worked on small blocks all day, all they called distributors was "dizzy's" so it kind of stuck.

I am not sure if that is what I am feeling though. When...
  18. Re: Intermediate shaft: binding with oil pump gear?

    Ok here's where I'm at:

I don't have the tools ATM to check the moment to check the bearings or the shaft... They are lent out unfortunately.

I had the shafts put on a lathe, both are perfectly...
  19. Re: Intermediate shaft: binding with oil pump gear?

Got both of them checked, both are dead straight. So something has got to be sitting funny with the oil pump or dizzy... Those bearings look mint in there, I can't see how they would cause an issue...
  20. Re: Intermediate shaft: binding with oil pump gear?

Hmm, I might have someone that can take a look for me. Gonna chat with him tomorrow.

I also doubt it, but I'm running out of ideas ATM.
  21. Re: Intermediate shaft: binding with oil pump gear?

I've tried a couple dizzy's, no difference there either.

I was reading though, if the distributor moves/wants to jump, sometimes it can mean a slightly bent/warped intermediate shaft. It only...
  22. Re: Intermediate shaft: binding with oil pump gear?

No, never had any intermediate shaft issues prior to this one.

The engine was running decent before, but had a few issues with ring lands on high boost before, so I ended up getting it machined +...
  23. Re: Intermediate shaft: binding with oil pump gear?

No, there is no excess friction while spinning the pump by itself.

The oil pump turns freely on its own. The intermediate shaft turns freely on its own. The dizzy turns freely on its own. The...
  24. Re: Intermediate shaft: binding with oil pump gear?

Well heres the news, not sure what to think:

dropped the pan, pulled out the oil pump. It did look like the one ear was a little too long, so I grinded it down so it didn't sit over that little...
  25. Re: Intermediate shaft: binding with oil pump gear?

    What ears are these?

Must have lost the note in the box =/ Those parts have been sitting a while.

I don't wanna drop the pan again, but whatever, better then having an issue down the road.
